🚨 Tor Browser opsec discovery: The security level slider cannot be relied upon without a full browser restart: privacyguides.org/articles/202

If you frequently switch between security levels in Tor Browser (or Mullvad Browser!), make sure you are fully restarting the browser every time, otherwise you could still unexpectedly have dangerous JS features enabled!

This requirement is not publicly documented anywhere. Hopefully @torproject will add a prompt to restart after modifying this setting in a future Tor Browser release.

Now that Google is getting desperate by trying to fight ad blockers like uBlock Origin, more people might consider switching to other browsers like Firefox.

There are a couple of Gecko-based browser choices on desktop like LibreWolf and the Mullvad browser but not many for mobile (Firefox, Firefox Focus).

When will we have LibreWolf and Mullvad browsers for mobile?

I recently started to use the Mullvad browser and so far I'm pretty impressed. The privacy features built into the browser help prevent tracking. I've paired it with my Proton VPN, and its been a good ride so far.

My day-to-day was Vivaldi. It has a ton of customization, as well as a lot of the same privacy features. My only concern with Vivaldi is that its pretty resource intensive. Mullvad is pretty bare bones compared to Vivaldi - and that is a good thing. It's simply a privacy enforced browser.

Mullvad released a new private web browser. mullvad.net/browser

At first I thought this was just a great way to have a no fuss pre-hardened Firefox, but this is turning out to be so much more!

By having a default settings profile that many people won't change, then combine that with using Mullvad VPN you join a crowd of fairly identical browser profiles. That was the point of the Tor browser as well.

Then there is the cool feature of browser canvas sizes that increments in 200px X 100px steps to greatly reduce the number of unique screen sizes.

uBlock and NoScript installed by default!

Default private browsing mode, cookie deletion on exit.

Then today I found out about Leta, a Google search proxy service Mullvad created for their VPN users. Why had I not heard of this before?

This has a solid business model as well- free for anyone to download and use, but supported by the VPN subscription revenue. Also a solid partnership with the Tor foundation for continued development and update releases.
