Hotspur🏳️‍🌈🇺🇦Musical Interlude: Whew, it was a hot and humid day today (until a thunderstorm swept through about an hour ago). I went out grocery shopping and came back drenched with sweat. This song came to mind...a minor hit in the Pittsburgh area (back when songs could be hits regionally), it was nevertheless disdained by its singer, Ronnie Dawson. A minor performer, he hopped from western swing to rockabilly to pop to country to folk, but he achieved quite a bit of fame in the UK in the 80s when there was a resurgence of rockabilly, and his old recordings were rereleased to great popularity. Sadly, he left us in 2003. These identical twins from Seattle are in their 70s and do a LOT of work with kids; they even a special family concert on Saturday morning. They're charming and sweet; their jokes are sometimes corny and obvious, but they tell them so perfectly they're still funny. Hotspur🏳️‍🌈🇺🇦Musical Interlude: One of the artists I saw this past weekend at the Old Time Music Festival was Jamie Fox (one x), an Indigenous fiddler from Montana, who taught us all a bit about the Old Time Music tradition in Indigenous communities...I mean, they absorbed a lot from us musically as well. She identifies as Métis, meaning a mixture of European and Indigenous cultures and ancestry, although here in the US she's identified as a certain tribe by the government.Anyway, here's a nice video where she introduces herself and performs a few pieces.
