Feathery/plant-like crystals like this are typical of fast crystal growth in magmas caused by rapid cooling. Field of view ca. 2mm wide. One of 5500 rock thin sections made by Alex Herriot at his home in East Kilbride, now in the Hunterian Museum, University of Glasgow.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Geology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Geology</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Mull" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Mull</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Microscopy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Microscopy</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Igneous" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Igneous</span></a></p>
