Poor 'Possum<p>I am an AmeriCorps NCCC alum, and while I have very mixed feelings about my time with the program, AmeriCorps just got DOGEd and there are young folks who just wanted to serve who need our help. I had the misfortune of being in the class of 2013, when the government shut down, delaying our start by weeks, and possibly completely canceling that service year entirely. I was homeless. I was very lucky, and had folks I could couch surf with, and managed to get through it just fine, but the anxiety of having a program I gave up my living situation for falling through like that has stayed with me. </p><p>The NCCC class of 2025 were in the program already when the rug got pulled out from under them. If you are an AmeriCorps Alum, check whatever network space you might have with past programs and teammates, and you will likely find links and forms for helping connect you to a current corps-member who needs aid. If you don't have access, let me know and I will privately send you a link. </p><p>The 18-26 year olds who join this group do it because they think they have the ability to be a force for good in the world. AmeriCorps does not have the same pull or benefits of military service, these are kids who largely believe in the mission. Help these kids, not just because it's the right thing to do, but because they represent, more than most, the spark of hope we need in this world, and right now that needs to be protected. </p><p><a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/NCCC" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NCCC</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/AmeriCorps" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AmeriCorps</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/DOGE" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DOGE</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/USPol" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>USPol</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/MutualAid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MutualAid</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/help" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>help</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/collapse" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>collapse</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/LateStageCapitalism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LateStageCapitalism</span></a></p>
Tom - KB9ENS<p>California QSO Party results are up. It was a fun contest this year. I managed the highest score in San Luis Obispo County, 3rd amongst mobile ops, and 3rd amongst <a href="https://mastodon.radio/tags/POTA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>POTA</span></a> ops. Pretty sure I won a POTA hat for my efforts. Much credit to the Northern California Contest Club for admining everything <a href="https://mastodon.radio/tags/NCCC" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NCCC</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.radio/tags/cqp" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>cqp</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.radio/tags/HamRadio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HamRadio</span></a> :alex: <a href="https://www.cqp.org/Results.html" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="">cqp.org/Results.html</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p>
