In my home city of Sunderland, Washington Old Hall, ancestral home of Founding Father and first president of the United States, George Washington. Back in the day, former USA presidents Ulysses S Grant and Jimmy Carter have both dropped by and said 'hello'.
So, it's a bit sad that our historic ties being strained by all that's happening just now!

So all my white ‘Dyrham Park’ tulips have turned out pale yellow. Luckily this is a colour scheme I can live with, but I’m glad I kept the packet so I could check that I wasn’t going mad… #NationalTrust #gardening

That’s amazing, so realistic. “each centimetre represents 2,000 kilometres of the real sun's surface.”

Grey, cold and murky across North East England today, but I did find the sun shining at Seaton Delaval Hall in Northumberland. 'Helios' is an installation by artist/sculptor Luke Jerram.
I first came across Luke Jerram's work some seven years ago at the Eden Project in Cornwall.
Some of his exhibits were created out of glass, but the most eye-catching and arresting sight was a huge giant inflatable E.coli bacterium installation, part of an exhibition that set out to make some of the invisible world around us, visible.
Since then, I've photographed two other of Jerram's inflatable installations, the 'Museum of the Moon' and 'Gaia', both at Durham Cathedral.
'Helios' is currently at Seaton Delaval Hall until 6 April 2025.

This is my favourite #magnolia of all magnolias. It is called Felix Jury and these flowers are truly enormous and the deepest magenta in colour.
I managed to get us one for our garden last autumn, so I hope we shall have similar flowers in a few year's time.

A couple more images from the weekend's visit to Wallington Hall, Northumberland in North East England. A glorious weather taster of what is hopefully to come with the season of spring just around the corner.

Nudging a very respectable 18°C at Wallington Hall, Northumberland, in this weekend's spring-like sunshine across North East England. The main house isn't open yet, so it was the annual crocus display in the 'walled garden' proving to be the big draw. The overflow car park put to good use with queues on the approach road as visitors were determined to make the most of the weather.

Loughwood Meeting House, Devon
One of the earliest surviving Baptist meeting houses in Britain, founded in secret c.1653, remaining illegal until Toleration Act 1688.
Given to National Trust 1969 and really well restored. Absolutely adorable!

For #FotoMontag here's the 18th century Gothic Temple, one of many temples in the gardens of the National Trust property at Stowe in Buckinghamshire. A fantastic walk with so much to see if you like architecture, sculptures, and lakes, and the house is impressive too, although it's privately-owned.
One of the reasons we like to go to our local #NationalTrust place is to browse through their #secondhand books.
We have found some real gems in the past, and today, we have found this wonderful book, which is hand #signed by Monty Don and his wife Sarah.
Not bad for £3.00.
Just before sunset in February 2019, after most of the visitors have gone home, it's quiet and #Avebury is exuding its uncanny vibe.
