@w7voa Did anybody else initially read this as lamenting that *both* the #NewYorkTimes *and* #VOA were “flickering out”?
I wondered why by #Washington Post wasn’t included, but thought maybe Steve Herman was implying that flame of #liberty had already been extinguished.
On second reading, I understood and boosted the toot, since it was a gift article.
But sadly, my first take is what it seems like. 
Although I cancelled my #NewYorkTimes subscription way back in 2016 or thereabouts, and have been very critical of NYT, if someone felt they needed to choose between #NYT and #WashingtonPost today, I would recommend NYT in a heartbeat. This would have been unthinkable to me even 6 months ago. Some followers may remember me defending WaPo as recently as October 2024. Everything has changed. WaPo is now the propaganda machine of one billionaire, who doesn't care a whit whether the paper makes money or not. I can only assume the "non-evil" people still working there are now frantically searching for new work elsewhere, planning an early retirement, or possibly deluding themselves that this, too, shall pass.
Amazing how after all these years of zero criticism puff pieces, suddenly mainstream western media wants to talk and write long articles about Musk's SA upbringing and childhood. Hell no. He might have been born in SA but American business and American media made him what he is today, they helped him sell his hyped up stock and fake space dreams. If you want to know where musk came from America get a mirror.

@gleick I can only warmly recommend writing directly to the NYT again and again! I sent them a long email explaining what I understand by quality journalism (I'm a journalist myself) - at the same time as cancelling my subscription.
The more people protest directly, the more it will be heard. (And yes, falling subscriptions are seen).
