Our Hero of the Week: fabulous local author/illustrator @fangmousbooks read to delighted 2nd graders from #LongfellowElementary at our April #Storytime!

Each student went home with a copy of “Ava Lin, Best Friend!" and picked more books from our #BookBank shelves to build their personal libraries!

Thank you, Vicky, for sharing your joy and laughter with kids who need more books of their own—for keeps!

Congratulations to fabulous, local, award-winning author Mac Barnett, the new National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature! HIs platform—Behold, the Picture Book! Let’s Celebrate Stories We Can Feel, Hear, and See—will explore the deeply impactful ways picture books blend words and illustrations to create a uniquely powerful reading experience, one that is often the foundation for a lifetime of reading.

Mac recently read to thrilled 2nd graders at our #StorytimeProgram, inspiring the next generation of readers and creators to make their own art and stories! Educators, librarians, and booksellers can apply by March 3 to host an event with Mac #everychildareader

We're celebrating #BlackHistoryMonth with stories that bring us joy, like author JaNay Brown-Wood’s “Tyson, el pequeñito,” illustrated by Anastasia Magloire Williams.

Una ingeniosa historia que une mensajes positivos acerca de la importancia de cada miembro de la familia, desde el más grande, hasta el más pequeñito, con un poco de matemáticas que todos los niños pueden entender.

Every year, #ChildrensBookWeek celebrates the bounty of beautiful books for children—and also reminds us that too many kids in our communities lack access to books of their own. That's why our mission is to give free books to children who need them for equity in literacy, learning, and life.

You can help us close the equity gap and raise readers by running a #ChildrensBookDrive—online or in person—at your office, business, school, or community organization.

Our Hero of the Week: Patrick Wang, a junior at Urban School in SF, volunteers with us because "it would have made a big difference to have books of my own to read whenever I wanted. I'm glad I can help make sure other kids have books of their own at home."

Thank you, Patrick, for all your amazing work with us and helping us give books to children who need books for equity in literacy, learning, and life.

Our celebration of #AANHPI Heritage Month continues with another book review of the must read “Kapaemahu” by Hinaleimoana Wong-Kalu, Dean Hamer, Joe Wilson, and Daniel Sousa.

“Kapaemahu” is a beautiful retelling of the native Hawaiian legend of the mahu. The tale describes the mahu's dual male and female mind, heart and spirit, and their invaluable wisdom in the science of healing, that must be preserved by all.
