Count (Do)Orlock for #doorsday 🦇 🧛‍♀️

I realize I didn't do a great job of showing the lights going on and off in the last post because it's quite difficult to scroll through the pictures quickly. So, I've learned a new skill and made a bad GIF! I promise to now retire (Do)Orlock, for a bit. 😂 (The rest of this post is the same as the previous one!)

This door is one of the side doors from the Collegio di Spagna - part of the University of Bologna and operational since the 14th century. It is a college for Spanish Students and it is the oldest in the world open to foreign students. (More on this cool building later!)
I spent more time on this than I care to admit and how I arrived at this magnum opus/possible cry for help has been surprising - even for me. 😂 I would love your opinions on in the comments!
I hope you like it and it makes you smile! ✨

I've been wondering why #RobertEggers' new adaptation of #Nosferatu came and went with barely a cultural blip, but now that I've watched it I can see why -- because it's both boring as shit and surprisingly generic for an Eggers film. Now add nepo baby Lily-Rose Depp, whose screen presence is the equivalent of shooting an inert pile of turds for 120 minutes; then finally give Dracula a 1970s porn mustache (?!?!?!?!?!), and it's easy to see why this film bombed so bad.

Getting ready to head downstairs for the #Archivedon #WatchParty. Tonight we are watching #Nosferatu. Please join us in 35 minutes. There are several versions on Internet Archive, which I've not looked for since (and am not going to right now)... But on my PeerTube we have:

Which I think is what I'm going to be watching (unless I get waylaid and end up selecting something else, as my whole 29 (I think) torrent collection is being transferred downstairs).

Thank you everyone. Really appreciate having you on board for my Tuesday night film watching/selecting. Take care.

Vaikka opiskeluaikoina tuli katseltua paljon vanhoja klassikkoelokuvia, tuon onnistuin missaamaan.

NOSFERATU

is 2 hours and 12 minutes of unwatchable torture. I cannot understand why it got these points on rotten tomatoes. It's terrible.

After 1 hour and a half Julio and I just gave up.

Watched the original Nosferatu (1922) last night, then bits of Vampyr (1932). It is MIND-BLOWING how much the language of film advanced in that decade.

In Nosferatu, a lot of the acting is still trying to reach the
back of the theater, and a lot of the camera work is fixed and stiff. I do wonder if part of the reason it became so legendary was due to the copyright lawsuit that required all copies to be destroyed. (It is a blatant Dracula ripoff.)

Vampyr is much more naturalistic — and also much more creepy. I still can't figure out how they executed the shadow special effect. (Yes, I know, it's probably online, but I want to ruminate on how they solved the problem first.)

We also decided to watch Nosferatu with German title cards to practice our German. We managed some of it! Some we had to look at the subtitles, and there were a couple of handwritten things we were expected to read that were illegible.

Next on the list: Werner Herzog's Nosferatu, or as we call it in this house, "Dosveratu."

Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror (1922)

Welp, I'm glad I saw this review, now I know not to watch the new #Nosferatu film - which is a shame as I'd been looking forward to seeing it, but nope. I won't be giving this my money or my eyeballs.

CW in the review for mentions of sexual violence and rape.

[Edited to add - yes I've seen the original, but the thing about a remake is Eggers could have changed this aspect. He chose not to. That speaks volumes.]
