#Sanctions are not a magic wand that fix things instantly (I say this because some people think sanctions "aren't doing anything" to #Russia)

Sanctions are a slowly tightening vise that squeezes and squeezes a little more... until things start to break

Things are starting to break:

"Russia #oil #trade to #China, #India stalls as sanctions drive up shipping costs"

Combine this with #Ukraine's #drones hitting more and more #Russian #oilRefineries

#Ukraine #OilRefineries

For over three month Ukraine has been attacking the oil refeneries of Russia using home made drones. Russia doesn't have the capacity for air defense this far behind the front.
Oil and oilproducts are the fuel of war. Methodically and effectively disabeling these installations the Ukraine forces are disrupting the supply of more killing and destruction.
It is also a crucial part of economic warfare; the oil products are needed for the Russian invasive war and can't be sold for profit.
The last weeks there are reports of the banks being in very serious trouble. Banks closing down. Rubles being the only currency these days and being subject to huge inflation. In Russian economy that means that the state is losing big time.

"20 jun 2024
A Russian oil refinery was hit by at least 15 drones overnight in Krasnodar. The Afipsky oil refinery can be seen engulfed in flames after drones struck. Russian media outlets reported that the attack on the plant began around 02:30 local time. Early reports indicate that the drones were downed, but the wreckage from one of the UAVs crashed into a storage tank, causing a large explosion. Drone Alerts were also declared in Lipetsk, Belgorod, Kursk and Voronezh regions."

Think that your #plastic is being recycled? Think again.

Plastic is cheap to make and shockingly profitable. It’s everywhere. And we’re all paying the price.

"#PlasticPollution—'a scourge on a planetary scale,' as French president Emmanuel Macron has put it—most affects those least able to deal with its consequences. Noting that the #PlasticIndustry generates upward of $700 billion a year in revenues, the UN Environment Programme (#UNEP) also concluded that the industry 'inflicts a heavy burden on #HumanHealth and #EnvironmentalDegradation, with the poorest in society facing the highest impacts whilst contributing the least to plastic over-consumption and waste.'

"This is true at every stage of plastic’s life cycle. #Manufacturing plants are concentrated in communities of color—such as in #Louisiana, in an area along the #MississippiRiver often called '#CancerAlley,' which is home to nearly 150 #OilRefineries, plastics plants, and #chemical facilities. Such plants emit #AirPollution that raises risks of cancer and other diseases. A panel of UN human rights experts said the situation amounts to a 'form of environmental racism [that] poses serious and disproportionate threats to the ... human rights of its largely #AfricanAmerican residents.'

"This pollution also disproportionately harms poor and developing countries that produce little or no plastic, such as those in #Africa, the #Pacific, and elsewhere."
