jess<p>suggestions for things to add to a Pakistan curry where someone accidentally added a cup of fenugreek seed when it should have been fenugreek leaf? it is so bitter but there's SO much leftover we'd love to be able to rescue it. </p><p>current thoughts/suggestions include: carrot, potato, sweet potato, simmer with stale bread. </p><p>or we might just pull the meat out and remake the palak and add the meat back in. <a href="https://petrous.vislae.town/tags/cooking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>cooking</span></a> <a href="https://petrous.vislae.town/tags/oops" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>oops</span></a></p>
Chris Alemany🇺🇦🇨🇦🇪🇸<p>it has been about 24.5 hours of the hose running. The pond is very close to being full. Only about 10 or 20 cm left before it connects to the pump bay. But even after that, it won't be another few centimetres before it is completely full.</p><p>I didn't want to have to turn the pump on in the dark so I have turned the water off. I may leave it off until after our rain event, which is expected on Thursday night. </p><p>It is supposed to rain up to 20 mm ending Friday night. That might be enough to top it up.</p><p>it feels a little anti-climatic that we filled it this way and for this reason. But it is what it is and it's still really cool to see it full and it will be very informative to have the pump running. I am sure I will have to do some minor alterations to the edges.</p><p> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/poolpond" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>poolpond</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/oops" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>oops</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/fire" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>fire</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/diy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>diy</span></a></p>
Chris Alemany🇺🇦🇨🇦🇪🇸<p>The filter. It is filtering.<br> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/poolpond" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>poolpond</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/oops" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>oops</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/fire" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>fire</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/diy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>diy</span></a></p>
Chris Alemany🇺🇦🇨🇦🇪🇸<p>The first trickle from filter to pool pond.</p><p>The main pond is not quite 3/4 full, but I thought it was important to make sure the filter was completely full and ready to start filtering. So I have shored up the low edges of the filter, taken away the temporary stream, and now the water is starting to flow from filter to pond. In time it will connect with the pump bay. Then I can turn on the pump and start circulating for real.</p><p>😆</p><p>The reason this is happening now is not the best reason. Our view to the southeast is not encouraging.</p><p>😔 🔥<br><a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/poolpond" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>poolpond</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/oops" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>oops</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/fire" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>fire</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/diy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>diy</span></a></p>
Chris Alemany🇺🇦🇨🇦🇪🇸<p>so. Funny story.<br>Last night, I get home from DoorDashing and I started doing a bunch of stuff to prepare for the fire and put away things. I turned the water on to finish filling the filter and the pump bay. Then I was setting up the sprinkler for the house. Then I got totally sidetracked by the fire stuff.</p><p>Fast-forward to this morning, and apparently we have a pool a little bit of ahead of schedule . 😂 💧 </p><p>I mean, it was part of the contingency plan in case the fire came. It needed to be full so that the liner was not a fire hazard, but yeah, not what I expected when I walked out of the backdoor this morning lol </p><p>So it turns out it takes about 12 hours to fill it half full. So 24 to fill it completely I assume.</p><p>This changes the build schedule sort of. The rock lining of the pond is obviously not done. Nor is the bottom intake and sprinkler plumbing.</p><p>Sometimes fate takes the wheel. 🤷‍♂️ 😂 </p><p>Partner is excited. 🏊 <br><a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/poolpond" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>poolpond</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/oops" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>oops</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/fire" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>fire</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/diy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>diy</span></a> #</p>

Queen of Insomnia<p>I forgot to take my anxiety med yesterday. This was a big mistake. I use a pill minder so I don't miss a dose, because missing a dose completely messes with my brain in ways that make me unable to do much. Even walking can be a challenge because it makes me super dizzy. I am sad I wasted a weekend day on this nonsense. I'm also thankful for my sis and BIL for taking care of me and my dog. Now we'll see if I can get some sleep and reset things for tomorrow. <a href="https://newsie.social/tags/medication" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>medication</span></a> <a href="https://newsie.social/tags/anxiety" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>anxiety</span></a> <a href="https://newsie.social/tags/oops" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>oops</span></a></p>

C.<p>I just cost myself several very puzzling hours over the course of a few days, because I forgot the first rule of debugging electronic circuits.</p><p>It's the connector.</p><p>It's always the connector.</p><p>I'd been having trouble getting some of my guitar effects modules to work correctly - older ones that I knew worked were giving me issues, and newly-made ones didn't pass any signal back through to the one they were connected to. I spent lots of time tracing through circuits trying to find where the signal was disappearing, and then trying to figure out *why* it was disappearing there. It wasn't until I happened to scope one of the wires in a cable at one end, followed by the other end, and found the signal disappeared somewhere in between...</p><p>It turns out some male-male JST XH cables I made were faulty - but not because of me. I'd bought premade pigtails, and just added another connector to the other end of the wires. Checking these more carefully, I found that 3 of the 6 I had made had one or more wires that weren't connected properly.</p><p>Taking them apart, it became clear why. Whoever set up the crimping machine when making those pigtails didn't do it right. A bunch of the wire crimps had the wire inserted way too far into the contact before it was crimped - so the wings that are supposed to make contact with the stripped portion of the wire were actually just closed on insulation. No contact at all.</p><p>Reminder to future me: check the connectors first!</p><p><a href="https://mindly.social/tags/electronics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>electronics</span></a> <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/hobby" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>hobby</span></a> <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/oops" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>oops</span></a></p>
