For my single user <a class="hashtag" href="https://tuxz.one/tag/akkoma" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Akkoma</a> instance, I'm only paying US$20/year for my VPS and it comes with 2 cores, 2GB RAM and 45GB storage. <br><br>I wouldn't use this <a class="hashtag" href="https://tuxz.one/tag/vps" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#VPS</a> to host a community though, for that I would use better hosting elsewhere like at <a class="hashtag" href="https://tuxz.one/tag/hetzner" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Hetzner</a> which has a similar plan for €4.35/month and then probably get object storage at iDrive for US$40/year for 1TB.<br><br>There's also <a class="hashtag" href="https://tuxz.one/tag/oraclecloud" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#OracleCloud</a> that has a pretty generous Always Free Tier: <a href="https://www.oracle.com/cloud/free/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">https://www.oracle.com/cloud/free/</a>
Robin Vleij<p>Any <a href="https://social.vleij.com/tags/mastoadmins" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mastoadmins</span></a> used <a href="https://social.vleij.com/tags/oraclecloud" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>oraclecloud</span></a> free tier to build a <a href="https://social.vleij.com/tags/mastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mastodon</span></a> instance? Seems you get some free VMs and up to 4 arm based instances that people build K8s clusters with. Plus 10GB object storage. And it’s without time limit. </p><p>Maybe a cost effective way to build and host instances, now the <a href="https://social.vleij.com/tags/twitterexit" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>twitterexit</span></a> is happening? Will investigate the coming weekend, see if I can get it running on that hardware some way or the other. <a href="https://social.vleij.com/tags/mastoadmin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mastoadmin</span></a> </p><p><a href="https://www.oracle.com/cloud/free/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="">oracle.com/cloud/free/</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p>
