Ok, so check this out. I raved about how magical #FreeBSD #linuxulator is, but it gets even better! In my Ubuntu linux jail, I downloaded the source for the #mobian kernel, installed cross-compiling tools, compiled the kernel and modules, copied to an sdcard, and booted up the kernel on my #pinephonepro 🤯 So, on my amd64 FreeBSD, I used a translation layer to load up Ubuntu Linux, used it to cross-compile a Linux kernel for arm64, and booted that up on a device! How unbelievable is that?!?

- What?! I exclaimed to myself when the 1st post in the glorious newsletter from Vermaden was this:

"Porting FreeBSD to Run on PinePhone Pro."

Years ago a port was began for OpenBSD, but it stalled. Check out the super blog: exoticsilicon.com (research.exoticsilicon.com/ser)

How was the sound quality? Ages back I did a few calls on the #PinePhone and #PinePhonePro. All connected, but almost every one had audio problems with people not being able to hear me, or it having massive echo, or sound distortion.

To be fair, this was long ago and I believe a lot of work has been done since on the modem and sound systems... which is why I'm interested how it sounds now. :)

HA

Music via #bluetooth on #Mobian on my #PinephonePro no longer sounds like it's being played underwater

Secret seems to have been editing /etc/bluetooth/main.conf

Line 65 was set to off (I assume by default??), instead of multiple

Moderately heavily tagged because either I'll look for this again, or because it'll help someone else. Both would be good though

Outgoing call quality is terrible. "Sounds like you are standing next to a waterfall". Tried following this and this advice and modified /usr/share/alsa/ucm2/PinePhonePro/VoiceCall.conf:

cset "name='IN1 Boost' 0"
cset "name='IN2 Boost' 0"
cset "name='IN3 Boost' 0"
That didn't work so I tried reducing mic volume in sxmo menu to 5%. "I still hear static but it is a lot better. I can hear my own voice echo back to me".
I followed
this advice and set
cset "name='ADC Capture Volume' 0"
Still having background static noise as well as echo. Very odd as I would have thought setting capture volume to 0 would have had zero input but it is still picking up too much.

This thread will be about my experiments with my new #pinePhonePro.
I got it yesterday and had a few minor hurdles out of the gate. I followed instructions on the wiki but couldn't get it to boot into
#sailfishOS. I don't remember what I did differently but after a few attempts it booted fine. I immediately wanted to replace sailfish but first checked that sms and calls worked fine and it did (though took a while to receive the first call).
I flashed
#postmarketOS with #PlasmaMobile to an sd card and tried booting from it but quickly realised I had missed a step :shinx_facepalm:. The wiki said I had to install #towboot to the SPI so I did that. After following the instructions properly this time I installed the OS successfully. I found Plasma extremely sluggish and unresponsive so quickly moved on. The next OS I flashed was postmarketOS again but this time with #sxmo and I immediately fell in love with the interface.
After that I went to sleep as it had been a long day and was getting late. This morning I flashed postmarketos with sxmo to the eMMC and will be tinkering with it today. Ill update this post with comments about my progress.
