This Is My Glasgow<p>Memorial to John Stewart who founded the City of Glasgow Friendly Society in 1862. This sculpture, on the city's Douglas Street, is by William Kellock Brown. Jason Baluyut<p>Projected videos at the exhibit commemorating Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s THE GATES (thanks to <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://masto.nyc/@Star12Mt" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>Star12Mt</span></a></span> for the recommendation). Brought back some memories! Also interesting to learn about the complicated decades-long approval process. I think it (luckily) turned out beautifully, but community boards weren’t necessarily wrong to resist the idea of millionaire artists turning already-beautiful public space into their personal gallery. Lots to chew on there. <a href="https://ohai.social/tags/nyc" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nyc</span></a> <a href="https://ohai.social/tags/publicart" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>publicart</span></a> <a href="https://ohai.social/tags/TheGates" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TheGates</span></a></p>
Ulrich BerensThe sculpture "The Stilt Walkers" was commissioned by the city of Homberg (Efze) in North Hesse, Germany. Three carved figures on stilts, over six meters high, peer curiously over the city wall on Wallstraße. They are intended to arouse the curiosity of passersby and drivers about the city of Homberg and invite them to look beyond the city walls.<br> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.de/discover/tags/publicart?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#publicart</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.de/discover/tags/sculpture?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#sculpture</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.de/discover/tags/photomontag?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#photomontag</a>
