“People are treated like pinballs with constant military orders playing with their fate and lives.”

“Where are people supposed to move? Unlike in other conflicts, where populations can find safety, Gaza is being bombarded all across. It is sealed off like a cage with borders shut and basics not allowed in.”

“Two million people, half of them children, live there. How is this allowed, at the world’s watch, with no checks and balances.”

“Having many cats is good. If you feel bad, you look at the cats and you feel better, because they know that everything is just the way it is. You don't have to be nervous about anything. And they know it. They are saviors. The more cats you have, the longer you will live. If you have a hundred cats, you will live ten times longer than if you have ten. One day, this will be known and people will have thousands of cats." — Charles Bukowski #quotes #cats

“I don't care a damn about men who are loyal to the people who pay them, to organizations...I don't think even my country means all that much. There are many countries in our blood, aren't there, but only one person. Would the world be in the mess it is if we were loyal to love and not to countries?”
― Graham Greene

With the most recent online trend of having AI generated images sort of resembling the art style of Studio Ghibli, nothing sums things up more than this quote by Hayao Miyazaki on similar technology from several years ago:

"I can't watch this stuff and find [it] interesting. Whoever creates this stuff has no idea what pain is whatsoever. I am utterly disgusted. If you really want to make creepy stuff, you can go ahead and do it. I would never wish to incorporate this technology into my work at all."

Which also brings to mind this quote by Guillermo del Toro, said during a conversation with the British Film Institute, where he also, interestingly enough, references Miyazaki and his work later on:

“I saw a demo of AI and I thought oh that's what people think animation is, giving prompts and the computer does it. You know, but AI has demonstrated that it can do semi-compelling screensavers. That's essentially that. The value of art is not how much it costs and how little effort it requires, it’s how much would you risk to be in its presence. How much would people pay for those screensavers? Are they going to make them cry because they lost a son? A mother? Because they misspent their youth? Fuck no!”
