I fear they are so removed from the real world that the penny will never drop that they're going in the completely wrong direction. It'll be the fault of voters who aren't getting engaged enough or are swallowing the propaganda from the non-Labour parties, etc.</p>
Wen<p>Kendall goes ahead as promised - hiding behind a plarhora of lies, disinformation and diversions. For fex sake, even Polly Toynbee (who has bent backwards to support right wing Labour over the years has finally realised that her idol has feet of clay (even if she remains confident that it will be bakes again).</p><p>The rest of us recognise a badly burnt pudding when we smell one.</p><p><a href="https://www.theguardian.com/society/2025/mar/18/liz-kendall-unveils-drastic-uk-benefits-cuts-to-fix-broken-system" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">theguardian.com/society/2025/m</span><span class="invisible">ar/18/liz-kendall-unveils-drastic-uk-benefits-cuts-to-fix-broken-system</span></a></p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Pips" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Pips</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/UkPolitic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>UkPolitic</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/RedReform" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>RedReform</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/LabourBetrayal" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LabourBetrayal</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/NoMandate" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NoMandate</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Starmer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Starmer</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Kendall" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Kendall</span></a></p>

Wen<p>Monbiot on the mark</p><p>Here are three of the consistent features of authoritarian states: the extreme persecution of dissent, the use of parajudicial measures to shut down opposition movements, and the selective application of the law. All three are already widely deployed in the UK. Though they were introduced in their current form by the Tories, they have been sustained and defended by Keir Starmer’s party.</p><p><a href="https://www.theguardian.com/global/commentisfree/2025/feb/22/keir-starmer-labour-illiberal-laws-hard-right-authoritarians" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">theguardian.com/global/comment</span><span class="invisible">isfree/2025/feb/22/keir-starmer-labour-illiberal-laws-hard-right-authoritarians</span></a></p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Authoritarian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Authoritarian</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/Starmer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Starmer</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/SlipperySlope" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SlipperySlope</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/SellingOut" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SellingOut</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/RedReform" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>RedReform</span></a></p>
