Renault Chairman Jean-Dominique Senard will soon step down from Nissan's board of directors, according to people familiar with the matter, continuing a broader leadership shakeup at the Japanese automaker. japantimes.co.jp/business/2025 #business #nissan #renault #carmakers

Yesterday, @clanger9 raised the question of asymmetry in Renaults. By coincidence, the very next car I snapped at the 2014 Bremen Classic Motor Show after yesterday’s AMC Pacer, this nice red Renault 4, is a perfect example. Like several older Renaults, the Quatrelle had a slightly longer wheelbase on one side than the other thanks to the design of its torsion bar rear suspension, which placed one torsion bar across the car in front of the other.

Renault 4CV aka "Cremeschnittchen" in Germany

The Renault 4CV (French: quatre chevaux, pronounced [kat.ʃəvo] as if spelled quat'chevaux)[5] is a car produced by the French company Renault from August 1947 through July 1961.[2] It is a four-door economy car with its engine mounted in the rear and driving the rear wheels. It was the first French car to sell over a million units, and was superseded by the Dauphine...

Today we jump forward in the Matra story to the 2001 Renault Avantime, seen here at the recent Practical Classics resto show. This was a sort of two-door coupé/hatch grand tourer which was in retrospect aimed at the same ‘French luxury’ niche as today’s DS models. It was quite unlike anything else, and car buyers didn’t really get it. Sales were low. Which of course means that it was loved - even revered - by later generations of car geeks (1/3)

Any #ClassicCar enthusiasts out there? Looking to ID this 1930s Renault that I photographed in France a few years ago.

Tag any classic car buffs you know, join in the fun 😂

EDIT: Thanks to everyone who chipped in to help (@tommi @gub @mbpaz @Eetschrijver @rootwyrm @DenOfEarth @vulgalour). This appears to be a Renault Primaquatre (maybe 1937). Writing up the article now, editing the photos and uploading soon 💖

MoT passed today on this little trooper with NO advisories. Frankly astonished at that. Tester was amazed at how not-rusty it is underneath since these vans (and the cars they're based on) tend to dissolve.

Off to get the tracking done tomorrow so it's a bit nicer to drive, and that's my back up sorted while I do even more work on the Princess.

Yesterday I posted a pre-Geely Volvo, the first-generation S80. Today, we’re looking at a pre-Geely Lotus, the original Europa, first launched in the sixties. I saw this 1969 S2 model at the NEC Classic Car Show last year. The photographs show how Lotus borrowed the engine and gearbox from the Renault 16 for a mid-engined layout.

My wife was advised to start looking for her next #motability car much earlier than usual - so we've been to visit 4 car dealers in #leicester today.

Three of the four had no disabled parking places available for their customers.
Vauxhall & MG had cones preventing access to the disabled spaces.
Renault had no parking spaces for anyone - the only obvious disabled space had a demonstrator car parked in it.
Hyundai passed the test (and were extremely welcoming & helpful).

I think this shows how they view not only their disabled customers, but all customers.
It's a disgrace.

More next week.

This would upset a lot of the #ForzaHorizon community if it actually happened, but having watched some videos of these cars, I'd love to see all of the new Renault 4, 5 and Twingo E-Tech added to #ForzaHorizon5 in 2025.

It's been a neglected marque in game - I think only one #Renault has been added since the game's release, and that was in a main DLC.

As a Twingo stan that was where I started - and this one looks as fun as the original - but all of these three look great.

Japanese automaker Nissan will throw its lot in with Honda.

The two Japanese OEMs plan to merge by 2026,
creating the world's third-largest car company in the process.
Already, earlier this year the two signed memorandums of understanding to create a strategic partnership
focused on software and electrification.
Now, they say, the changing business environment calls for deeper integration.

Currently, #Honda is an independent OEM,
albeit one with strong links to #General #Motors.

Meanwhile, #Nissan currently forms one part of an alliance, together with France's #Renault and the also-Japanese #Mitsubishi.

But the Renault-Nissan alliance has not been entirely smooth.

In 2019, then-head of the alliance Carlos Ghosn was arrested by Japanese police
on charges of financial misconduct.
After three months under house arrest,
Ghosn fled the country and Japan's criminal justice system, (which rarely returns a not guilty verdict).

Last year, Nissan agreed to invest $663 million into Renault's EV activities;
at the same time Renault gave up the majority of its shares in Nissan,
reducing the stake of each company owned by the other, down to 15 percent.

That was meant to lead to "a broader range of EV products and powertrains,"
said Uchida at the time.

But evidently it was decided that this arrangement was not sufficient to improve Nissan's electric vehicle portfolio.

For its part, Mitsubishi says it will monitor the situation and decide whether or not to join at a later date.

Meanwhile Renault said in a statement that
"as the main shareholder of Nissan,
Renault Group will consider all options based on the best interest of the Group and its stakeholders.

Renault Group continues to execute its strategy and to roll-out projects that create value for the Group,
including projects already launched within the Alliance."

It's my turn to ask for some obscure motoring info, please help if you can, boost if you can't.

Who was responsible for the wheelchair accessible conversion on the Renault 5 Extra vans sold in the UK?

I have utterly failed to find anything online about this. There must be a nerdy little blog out there that goes into this at depth, I just can't get past the corpo-mainstream-hell-search bouncers.
