Lisa Lorenzin (she/her)<p>Just for completeness - got the last seam done today and tied off a couple other loose ends I found. It's so much worse, everything randomly crashes, it reboots by itself, it's very likely because it's lying about the size of RAM. My anger has just sublimated into excitement. This is going to be a fun <a href="https://merveilles.town/tags/hacking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>hacking</span></a> challenge. :flan_hacker:<br>cc: <a href="https://merveilles.town/tags/theWorkshop" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>theWorkshop</span></a> <a href="https://merveilles.town/tags/repair" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>repair</span></a><br>ps.: Protip: don't buy no-name Android tablets, at least not without testing them in-person</p>

Fortunately that means the failure is the thread holding the pieces together, not the fabric itself...</p><p>It's a bit tedious to fix, since I'm trying to use existing holes rather than introduce new points of weakness. And I'm doing each seam as two lines of alternate running stitches, so if the threads break on one line, the other will hopefully hold it together enough for me to fix it more easily next time. </p><p>I got through both lines of the joining seam and one line of the edge-tape seam before I ran out of time (and patience) today. Should go a lot quicker tomorrow since the edges and tape are already lined up, so it'll just be a simple running stitch!</p><p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://infosec.exchange/@cannibal" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>cannibal</span></a></span> <br><a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/DIY" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DIY</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/repair" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>repair</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/sewing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sewing</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/handsewing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>handsewing</span></a></p>

Ari [APz] Sovijärvi<p>In the topic of cheap things out of which I've gotten my money's worth from, this DS201 Pro portable scope. I bought it with zero expectations from eBay long ago.</p><p>From what I understand, these started their life as a hack firmware to a common MP3 player, turning it into a portable scope. The firmware then found its way into devices that were actually made to be oscilloscopes, such as this one.</p><p>I think it cost around $75 or so back in the days, but it has been priceless in arcade repairs over the years, when working with in-situ PCBs in pinball machines.</p><p>It's very limited compared to the old HP's CRT scope I also have and it only has a single channel, but as my most common use case is "is anything sensible coming out of that chip" where I can instantly visually determine if we're in business, it's more than adequate.</p><p><a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/oscilloscope" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>oscilloscope</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/electronics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>electronics</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/repair" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>repair</span></a></p>
