🏭 Hi, I’m very pleased to tell you I’ve finished working on two decks in my new Anki deck ‘factory’, which is a Git monorepo where the work on all of my new decks is done. Feel free to check it out here 🙂

-
😜 One deck is for Gitmoji, a more-or-less standardised emoji guide for commit messages.
-
🤏 The other one is a deck for structures and idioms involving prepositional phrases in Welsh. If you learn Welsh it might be quite useful for you; otherwise I guess it might… not.
-
🔊 In addition, my Tatoeba decks are also linked there. They are quite old (2019); there are languages which have many new sentences with audio since then. Sometime I will redo them all (although the process is automatic to a large degree, it’s still quite time consuming).

What’s next?

- A deck based on Thorne’s
A Comprehensive Welsh grammar (Gramadeg Cymraeg cynhwysfawr). Tons of (Literary) Welsh sentences, many of which are taken from real native texts, with grammatical explanations. This is quite a massive project.
- Updating and sharing some decks I’ve worked on in the past (some are finished, some are not). This includes decks for Breton, Welsh, French, Old Norse, Sámi languages, toki pona and Middle Welsh.

What’s not?

- Any ‘AI’ nonsense
🤖

Everything will appear in the table in the above repository, and I will occasionally post announcements about new decks here

The winter after the big fire, there was a *tremendous goddamn windstorm* one night. In the morning I still needed to go feed my horse, so I got in my WRX and went to the barn. I had to stop and get out here and yank enough of the big branches out of the way for my car to get through, and the wind was still howling and branches were still crashing down, and it was *really not fun.*
Going to the barn very early turned out to be a good call. I remember about 8 am a big tree came down on the highway, and the road was closed for half a day, with the only alternate being an extra 40 minutes around the mountains to come back down from the north.
I think that’s enough peering into the past for now! #scm

We were the northernmost town on the Santa Cruz side of the mountains. Two towns south down the highway (maybe six miles) was Ben Lomond. At some fateful point in the far past they’d voted against joining the county library system, and this historic cabin housed their truly sad volunteer library. #scm

New publication out in #SCM (#OpenAccess):

I had the pleasure of contributing to a study initiated by @chainsawriot and Rainer Freudenthaler that aimed at generating a synthetic #news corpus to validate generic frame detection methods.

Punchline: Measuring generic frames is more than complicated--and whether the concept can be employed in #CommunicationResearch in a valid and reliable manner seems somewhat questionable.

So who wants to help the @Codeberg folks implement code search?

codeberg.org/Codeberg/Communit

Codeberg.orgCode Search: Looking for maintainersAn existing issue (#379) tracks the feature to enable code search on Codeberg. To move this forward, I'd appreciate to create a team of people available to experiment with it and maintain the setup in the future. The plan could look as follows: - discuss the resource allocations regarding memory, CPU and disk storage with the Codebeg infrastructure team - an LXC container is created matching the above results on our infrastructure - investigate the use of [ZincSearch](https://github.com/zinclabs/zinc) vs OpenSearch - configurate Forgejo / Gitea to connect to the setup using a test instance - adapt and finish [this pull request](https://codeberg.org/Codeberg/forgejo/pulls/47) to enable code search per repository (opt-in) - enable code search on the production instance and continue the maintenance of the setups inside the LXC container If this sounds interesting to you, please reach out here. We're available to collaborate closely with you, however it would be great if a dedicated team could push the effort and iterate independently. Thank you a lot! Useful links: - Forgejo config: https://docs.gitea.io/en-us/config-cheat-sheet/#indexer-indexer - #379 with experiences - connect Forgejo to ZincSearch: https://github.com/zinclabs/zinc/issues/538#issuecomment-1251748395 - consider Sourcegraph as an alternative to Forgejo-built-in search: https://about.sourcegraph.com/

I'm struggling to understand why any #OpenSource project is still using #Subversion as its repository. I just want to maintain my own fork of some software that I use and occasionally submit patches to the maintainer. It's trivially easy with #git and absurdly complicated with Subversion.
git-svn is an option, but I've been watching "git svn clone" checking svn revisions for more than 20 minutes now with no end in sight. Ugh.

If you are a #rc2014 user you may be interested in "ser2net" #Ser2Net which will allow you to use your #Linux box as telnet gateway to directly access your #FTDI serial adapter connected to your rc2014 and thus the console of the machine without the need of a #WiFiModem module and #ESPTerm.

Keep in mind that there's no authentication, once connected you will immediately given access to the rc2014 console!

The telnet connection will persist even when you reset your machine, displaying to you the whole #SCM or #RomWBW startup sequence. So it's like good old KVM console access ...
