The WSJ reported last week #RFKJr’s #HHS planned an immediate freeze of $27.5M in #FamilyPlanning grants for groups including #PlannedParenthood.

PPFA says >300 #health centers are in the #TitleX network & Title X-funded centers received >1.5M visits in 2023.

The loss of funding will mean that “cancers go undetected, access to #BirthControl is severely reduced, & the nation’s #STI crisis worsens,” said Alexis McGill Johnson, PPFA president.

So, I had my second PrEP appointment this morning at my county's health department.

I'm still HIV negative, by the way. Yes, they tested me again. It is no joke, if you are HIV positive you **shouldn't** be on PrEP as it makes the treatment of HIV more difficult.

My visits to the health department cost me nothing. However, CVS just told me that my monthly supply of Descovy would cost over $600. (That's US dollars.) That's with insurance. Up to now, I thought it would be free.

I don't have that type of money to throw around. I've contacted the health department to report this. We'll see what they say.

In the meantime, I'm very 😩 of the stupid healthcare system in the US.

Wooo! First time finished my at-home blood test for PreP prescription with just one prick/finger ✌️ Usually, it takes like three 😭 I guess running up and down stairs a few times helped get the blood going 😂

For those who don’t know, this is what the test looks like. You’re supposed to have blood completely fill the circles. It takes a giant droplet to soak through the whole circle, or multiple drops.

Their study was small and must be confirmed by more research. Scientists still have to resolve significant questions, including whether #STD might become resistant to the antibiotic and what effect it could have on healthy gut bacteria in people taking it every day.

Dear #Albertans,

Now might not be the best time to make #sexed "opt-in". #Gonorrhea cases had more than doubled 2014 to 2022, and in the same period #Syphilis went from 160 to 3,300[1]. A Syphilis outbreak was declared in 2019, it has gotten worse.

This is not making any value judgements. But just as we would not reduce drivers ed requirements when there is a spike in road accidents, do not reduce sexed in a declared #STI outbreak.

Disappointing to see doxy PrEP in people with vaginas was ineffective/inconclusive in this study. A prophylactic treatment for common STIs regardless designated sex at birth is *much* needed given the truly embarassing state of #publichealth in the US

"the state of sexually transmitted infections in the US is dire. Rates of STIs, including syphilis, chlamydia, and gonorrhea, have been skyrocketing for years. In a report earlier this year, the CDC noted that national cases of syphilis increased 74 percent from 2017 to 2021. In 2022, the number of babies born with syphilis was more than 10 times the number in 2012."
