Now I have a list of publications I follow in Apple News and have no problems finding specific topics. Others like MSN and Yahoo News are useful too which also has NYTimes. Can’t afford to subscribe to all. I did like the experts I found on Twitter but site has too many problems, most recently #selfDDOS and limiting what we can read. One workaround Threadreader app still works for now.

Sue Strong
Twitter CEO backs widely criticized tweet-reading rate limits - Reuters dumb as rate limits affect all users that don’t pay which is a lot. Note no mention of Elon’s move to limit those not logged in from seeing tweets which led to the #SelfDDOS. Generally when one pays to use a platform, no ads are an expected benefit. Sheldon
Today in the annals of the Self DDOSing Twitter we follow the story of the three wise monkeys.

Yesterday was Monkey-can't-read-Twitter. Today seems to be Monkey-can't-post-Twitter.

If tomorrow isn't Monkey-can't-hear-audio-in-Spaces-Twitter I'll be sorely disappointed.

So, anyone else able to post to Twitter today? Some leave to tell the truth to the world (like Einstein's migration to the USA in the 1930s), sometimes in full flight, as refugees. (Like Einstein in the 1930s.) OK, there aren't the threats of firing squads and "account death" isn't actual death, it's a silencing, but violence is traumatic, accumulative and harmful. Likewise microvilences accumulate, slowly, sure, but the harm still gets done.

Elon "Muck" is an aggressor, a tyrant, a fascist. Twitter has become a battleground between hollow opinion and reasoned dissent. It is a war zone. Bombs aren't falling. People aren't dying, but the behaviour of the platform's self-appointed supreme leader is weaponised gaslighting, weaponised abuse, in short a war _of_ torment. Singling out the different ("cis is term of abuse") and using their reasoned, evidenced position against them in abusive propagandist's twisted reversal of the attacked group's position.

Trans? "They're the problem!" ~ Elon Hitler
Evidence based and academic? "What do they know?!" ~ Elon Mussolini.

This fight for Twitter (I believe Twitter is lost, sorry) is the evolution of war. The "corporate aristocracy" have gone to war on the heart of democracy, public discussion, in much the way Trump went to war on legal procedure and common decency (as in manners, not morality, the latter itself, hijacked.)

I left Facebook because I was no longer willing to allow my reactions to feed Meta's product motive. I fled the evolution of slavery, a pseudo-consensual slavery of our psychology rather than bodies. I am a dissenter in exile. Writing what I can.

Those of you from twitter, really are refugees. Not fleeing a physical threat, not in fear of life, still with your rooves over your heads sure, but in fear of your voice being unilaterally silenced without trial or evidence, more easily than by spilling your blood.

This is what #cyberwar looks like.

Sheldon
Oh hell yes! I got DDOS to trend on Twitter and look what the top post is!

Twitter is going great, y'all!

#DDOS #SelfDDOS #TwitterDown

Sheldon
So I had a really fun day writing up about Twitter trying to DDOS itself. I didn't expect it to blow up the way it did here, but even more amusing is that someone took a screenshot of that post and cross-posted it to Twitter and now that post is blowing up on Twitter too!

Poor Twitter. Can't catch a break. It's down and even the holdouts want their turn to give it a good kick.

Update: I have to add a screenshot of that screenshot because someone just reminded me that most people can't view the tweet unless they have a Twitter account to login to. It's ironic of me to forget because that's how today's circus got started.

It also shows how a seemingly innocent change like this can snowball into an avalanche of unintended consequences.

Anyway, 4500 retweets later and the party continues.

#selfDDOS #TwitterDown

https://twitter.com/Esqueer_/status/1675217212951461890

Sheldon
Lest anyone doubt that Twitter was idiotic enough to release code that would cause a race condition and result in its own users executing a DDOS attack on it, here's the network console readout from Firefox showing all the network requests blasting away.

Of course I immediately closed out my connection because I'm a good person.

...but wait! It's the weekend and Evil Sheldon is in control so I kept the party going for a while since Twitter insisted on it.

#TwitterDown #Twitter #MastodonMigration #DDOS #TwitterFail #SelfDDOS

Sheldon
This is hilarious. It appears that Twitter is DDOSing itself.

The Twitter home feed's been down for most of this morning. Even though nothing loads, the Twitter website never stops trying and trying.

In the first video, notice the error message that I'm being rate limited. Then notice the jiggling scrollbar on the right.

The second video shows why it's jiggling. Twitter is firing off about 10 requests a second to itself to try and fetch content that never arrives because Elon's latest genius innovation is to block people from being able to read Twitter without logging in.

This likely created some hellish conditions that the engineers never envisioned and so we get this comedy of errors resulting in the most epic of self-owns, the self-DDOS.

Unbelievable. It's amateur hour.

#TwitterDown #MastodonMigration #DDOS #TwitterFail #SelfDDOS
