#SelfPromotion #SelfPromotionSunday The Challenges of Being Me is a #contemporary #youngadult story.
Step one: Attend and graduate from the same college as my parents and sister. Check.
Step two: Find someone during freshman year and start a relationship with them. Nope.
Steph three: Fall in love. Not in my cards.
Step four: Get married and start a family. Can’t do this until I get to step three. #KindleUnlimited #kindle #writingcommunity #author @bookstodon

There is to my mind a marked difference between advertising and self-promotion. If I see your toot, it's because I follow you or someone I follow Boosted it (or you posted to a tag I follow), which means that by default I should be at least nominally interested. If your toot is trying to sell me a neat thing you have created, I have no problem with that. That's self-promotion and it is cool and rad and I've already found some neat things I've purchased from folks who have found their way into my feed.

I would only have a problem with suddenly seeing toots not because of following/boosting connections, but rather because someone paid cash to inject the toots into my otherwise-curated feed. That would be a violation (in my opinion) of one of the core tenets of the Fediverse- that there is no "algorithm" to game and that everyone is in charge of what they each see in their respective feeds.

I'm a writer, and one of the things I use social media for is to promote my own work.

I also know how annoying it is when authors never post anything *else*. So I limit myself to one post a week. That's today.

Here's my most recent book, published by Ad Astra Games. This is my current last word on designing scientifically plausible exoplanetary systems for fiction, at least until I produce a second edition.

Given self-promotion is probably OK this weekend...

You might like it if you like dub, the less harsh side of noise, ambient techno and the like. It's a bit dark, but not wholly so. Think 5pm dark rather than lost in an underground cave dark.

It's been a while so it's time to boost this again: I first started writing computer programs in April, 1984, which is 40 years ago. I've written an essay on what I've learned along the way: liw.fi/40/#index2h1

"Interesting and significant software is beyond the capacity of any one person to build alone in a reasonable time frame. This means that the fundamental, crucial, core skills in building software are communication and collaboration."

Hey, I have a stupid idea.

I've got a book fair coming up, and about four weeks to pull together the order for enough stock to fill it. (I have a lot of one volume but none of the other).

Since Game for Scribes isn't ready yet, I bet if I sold maybe 15 copies of either of my books in that time, it'd pay for the fair.

Plus, since none of you are locals, it's not like you're likely to find them anywhere else!
