Gwen Fisher
Three Wheeled Robot T-Shirt

Just finished making this man’s cotton t-shirt, entirely hand sewn with 100% cotton jersey, acrylic paint, and heavy weight polyester and cotton threads. The blue and olive paints are metallic and are more subtle in real life. #sewing

Meyari McFarland
No, JoAnn's marketing jerks who closed down an entire chain to sell off its parts, I do not want to know my local store is closing on the 26th.

No. Seriously. Do not want to know. I'm not going to take part in tearing the last shreds apart, thank you very much.

Not only because it's horrible and ghoulish and deeply wrong to be doing this to a company, but also because, you know...

...I kinda still have literally yard-high stacks of fabric I need to deal with. Ahem. Yeah.

#sewing #random

Sini Tuulia
Well, the structural things are done. There is a little bit of excess on the lower curve right there, but am undecided if it bothers me enough to do anything about it... Some sort of slightly slapdash dart covered with embroidery with just the binding unpicked and redone would be a fairly period accurate solution, but ehh. 😆
Here it's just on clothes, and the fit is pretty good otherwise!

#Sewing #Corsetry

Madeleine Morris
The aim is to join two pieces of material together. If your stitching does that, then you win. And if it looks ‘hand made’, well, fuck, it IS hand made.

You can pick up a garment with a perfect seam at Primark for 3 Euros. Who the fuck wants to emulate that? #Sewing

Madeleine Morris
I want to show you my work sewing the collar on because I want you to see just how bad my hand sewing is. I suck at it, but I’ve realized that this doesn’t matter. As long as my stitches are small and close together, and I settle my mind to not being in a hurry #sewing #kimono #haori

Madeleine Morris
The collar is going on, but I basted the outer layer to the lining first to keep the fuckers in place #sewing #kimono #haori

AI6YR Ben
LOL 1970's jogging short pattern, yeah, let's skip that. BUT WAIT, HE'S WEARING A HEADBAND AND WRIST BANDS, THAT IS TRENDY. #sewing

Lost (she/they)
Today, I spent four hours working on my first ever sewn garment! It's rated for an adventurous beginner, and boy was I feeling the "adventure". It's a muslin mock up of my Juniper Dress (Nobel Utility Dress dupe). I'm really happy with it overall, but I need to add two inches in length. The real version with my good black cotton canvas fabric is going to have a zipper down the front and short sleeves. This test was mainly to see where the elastic channel should be placed, and I got it pretty close to my actual waist. The elastic was imperfectly bunched in the photos, and I should have shifted more of the gathering to the front, but I didn't need it to be perfect to assess the channel location.

I can't thank my friend enough for lending me their very nice sewing machine, iron, tools, sewing knowledge, and support. I couldn't have done this without them. Skill sharing is awesome and empowering! #sewing

AI6YR Ben
Realized I now have the skills to tailor all those button down shirts that never fit me!

Only problem is, I don't ever wear button down shirts anymore (so seldomly, I only realized last week that the dress shirt I wore to a college graduation a year ago was still crumpled up in the bottom of the garment bag.) 🤔

#sewing

AI6YR Ben
Lessons:

1. Duct tape and attic insulation (or padded envelope) version is a lot easier to construct. That's what I usually use for this. Also, very repairable (slap more duct tape on it when needed, ha ha). I decided to sew a bag because a big insulating and reflective bag, while great for SOTA/hiking/POTA, not great for possible need to put this on a plane.

2. Figuring out the 3D of a bag with seam allowances is definitely more challenging.

3. Transition between bag and edge, edge and lid are iffy... lack of experience and understanding how those are handled. it's a lot easier to clone things than try to figure it out when you have zero experience in how things are done. I'll get those, eventually.

Probably should scout up some patterns for equipment bags for some of these issues. 🤔

#lessons #sewing

AI6YR Ben
Well, that did not go as well as hoped, LOL. Bobbin or needle tension issued cropped up on the lid.... multiple layers of fabric and velcro appears to need more (less?)...errr different tension.

Anyway, here you go, amateur designed, amateur constructed,, amateur radio equipment bag. #diy #hamradio #sewing

AI6YR Ben
Hmm, trying to build a new bag for a portable radio, and the design looks like it was hallucinated by a computer.
