The people least likely to learn anything new are those who think they already know it all. By contrast, those who are willing to question their own assumptions & adopt new perspectives are in the best position to arrive at new insights. – from Socrates in Plato’s ‘Apology’

@Some_Emo_Chick at the near #death of #democracy that happens if enough idiots (#Socrates knew about this problem long time ago infosec.exchange/@Linknation/1) are allowed to vote + #hidden #criminals were in #power and #corrupted #democracy beyond recognition, it is just "natural" that openly #criminals #thugs are now elected into #parliament and #president, the #criminals are not even hiding anymore X-D

Watch out on your way back from the party tonight.

"One day #Sokrates came home from a dinner at a late hour of the night. Some badly behaving youths learned of his movements in advance and lay in wait for him. They carried lighted torches and wore masks of the Erinyes, it being their habit to misuse their leisure by playing tricks on other people. Sokrates was not frightened when he saw them; he stopped and began asking them questions."

Read this today. Fun. Suggests a daimon — a kind of guardian spirit which #Socrates said he'd received guidance from since he was a child — was at the heart of Socrates' practice and experience, and that that was then elaborated on and extended by Plato (in, for instance, his portrayal of Eros).

Thus the daimonic is the actual heart of Western #philosophy.

@shapr I learnt most of what I learnt about Property Based Testing attending #SoftwareCraftsmanship sessions and open-space conferences and camps.

The most notable ones are #SoCraTes , and the community often do regular meetups gathering in several countries, where you can most probably simply bring the subject on the table, and you'd get a group with who to talk about it.

They also have slack channels, but I don't remember the references.

It's not like Socrates had trouble managing the day-to-day functions of his household and instead spent hours on end out in the forum talking about really interesting random tangents with his friends and strangers, so much so that he would forget to do basic things he was supposed to do that day. And it's not like he got really excited about each new idea that popped up and put a bunch of time and effort into figuring it out, only to lose momentum and never actually finish doing anything, to the point where his awkward, quiet student Plato had to actually finish writing everything he had started.

Okay, but if I ever go on trial for corrupting the youth, I am definitely going to get so bored that I just impulsively go off on why everyone in the courtroom is wrong and a doofus and how the whole system is stupid...and then realize I am definitely definitely definitely going to be executed because I just insulted the jury, judge, and every other person in the courtroom due to a lack of emotional regulation and impulse control. 😅

That ADHD moment when everyone insists the best way to learn is to go find a teacher who will give you lessons you follow and gradually build up a skill through practice, but you go off on a rant about how traditional teaching methods are pointless and just wasteful repetition and a parlor trick. No, you'll definitely learn more by going up to random people and asking them about whatever you're curious about that day and talking for hours on end about it. Yep...much better way to learn...

That ADHD feeling when you're hanging out at a wedding and everyone is musing about the meaning and origin of romantic love...and you get distracted and talk about this one time you really had a good conversation with your teacher, Diotima, and then your friend drops in drunk off his ass and you just vibe and forget what you all were talking about to start with.
