Time for an #Introduction post. I’m a #liveaboard #sailor (www.svloka.com) and full time #nomad who is also a #creative #artist. I play #guitar, #crochet, paint (#watercolor & #acrylic), and draw #penandink. I love #yoga and use #meditation to manage my #anxiety. Got #sober in 2020.

I am a recovering #softwareengineer (#programmer) and #ITmanager. I focused a lot on #leadership & effective #communication, and I still enjoy #mentoring people on those topics. I still tinker with tech on occasion.

I'm looking for work as a Senior Software Engineer. Network programmer since 1990, with a Web focus. I've implemented many protocols and designed some too.  Worked on early RFCs; wrote seminal tutorials on Web tech; wrote the first anti-censorship proxy, CGIProxy, in 1996. I have a ton of experience in many different business contexts, including running a small USG-funded NGO from 2011-2019. My main languages are Go, JavaScript (Node.JS/client-side), Perl, Python, and Rust, but I learn quickly and can pick up other tech as needed. Good at teaching. Record of solving hard problems creatively. Can manage if needed, but I'd rather be doing technical work.

Open to permanent or contract, full or part time. Need to work from home. Ideally I'd work in public interest technology (PIT), but can do corporate work too. Available immediately.

DM me here, email james@jmarshall.com, or Signal at jamesmarshall.02 .

Thank you for any leads! 😊

#FediHire 🥳

I'm a
#Programmer/#SoftwareEngineer. I'm most fluent in #Python, have some basics in #Java and #C++, but I'm also taking up new languages like #Javascript and others in my eternal journey of getting better and minimising the impostor syndrome that befalls pretty much all programmers (I feel). I'm also very experienced in #CloudNative/#DevOps technologies, and have been the one devising solutions and maintaining infrastructure in a fast-paced startup environment in my previous employment.

I'm passionate in what I do and those that know me here or IRL would know that I'm always
yapping about the things I'm learning or working on - I love discussing them, and I love helping people out - esp those on the same boat as me.

This passion has led me into writing and maintaining tons of
#FOSS projects like Mango: a content distribution framework based on #Django for #Mastodon and #Bluesky that powers various bots of mine like @lowyat@mastodon.social and @waktusolat@mastodon.social, Charts: a #Helm chart repository for an easy and reproducible deployment strategy for all my projects and everything else I self-host on my #homelab, and Orked: O-tomated #RKE2 distribution, a collection of scripts I wrote that are comprehensively documented to enable everyone to self-host a production-grade #Kubernetes cluster for absolutely free in their homes.

I'm based in Malaysia, but I'm open to just about any on-site, hybrid, or remote job opportunities anywhere. In the meantime though, I'm actively looking for a job in countries like
#Japan and #Singapore, in a bid for a desperate lifestyle change. I've linked below my Portfolio (which you too, could self-host your own!), for those who'd wish to connect/learn more of me. Thank you ❤️

So, after being laid off a few months ago, I find myself still looking for work.

If you are looking for a senior software engineer who has specialized in Python work for twenty years, and who has worked in virtually every area of software from embedded firmware to GUI applications, with almost 20 years as a full-time remote employee, contractor, and consultant, I'm available.

Full resume available, references upon request.

If you know someone looking for such, I'd appreciate you referring them to this.

Thanks!

Approaching my 10 year mark as a (paid) Software Engineer, I just had my first experience getting laid off. At least it wasn’t performance-related, and they are offering a letter of recommendation.

So, now I’m on the market! Resumé and contact info at https://johnryan.dev

You may DM me with questions but serious inquiries only, please.

foo, bar, and baz are the worst variable, function, etc names to include in code tutorials.

Beginners especially will find them confusing because instead of seeing them as "obviously silly placeholders" they are likely to be thinking every keyword token seems silly, but is important.

It also breaks with the rule to name variables what they are or what they do (e.g. price_subtotal or calculateTax). Write tutorials like you would write actual code.

Hello! I suddenly find myself needing a job... yesterday!

I'm an experienced software and research engineer with a load of data science skills; I've worked on profiling and tracing MPI/MPICH programs, supercomputer simulations, C++ debugging (including tracing MPI race conditions! fun!), statistical analysis of chemical simulations, web service API/work, some front end, etc. I've written/debugged/worked on projects in C, C++, TypeScript, C#, Python, shell, and dabbled in Rust. I'm able to jump on any project and learn quickly. I love working in supercomputing!

I'm putting together my resume but if you know if anyone looking for someone to hire, here I am! I'm open to contract and temporary positions, too, so long as they're remote. I'm in Portland, OR, in the US.

Boosts appreciated!

It's been over half a year since I've refreshed my #introduction so... I think it's due for an update!

Hi there! I'm Daphne⭐ (pronounced "Daphne Star", pronouns she/her), and I'm a middle-aged #trans woman making her way through life. I don't post as often as I used to, but I still stop in from time to time. Most of what follow and post is trans related, or at least non-heteronormative. I'm also a #parent; much of my time and energy is spent being and growing as a mother, and that comes up occasionally in conversation. I'm an experienced #SoftwareEngineer as well, though I don't talk about that it as much.

All that said, most of what I post these days is #fiction! I'm a fledgling #writer and aspiring #GameDev who makes trans art, and this account has mainly become a vehicle for promoting my work. I'm the #author of an ongoing serial fiction titled Family of Me which has grown substantially from where it started a year and a half ago. It's an autobiographical story about processing my own past, told through a series of conversations with my inner children. The series does maintain continuity from scene to scene, but each scene is intended to be a dive into a single self-contained topic, so new readers are encouraged to start wherever they feel comfortable. You can find the series on the hashtag #FamilyOfMe or at its website: familyofme.com/

I occasionally post other art as well; most recently a short story set in a dystopic future called Genderpunk 2077. You can find that as well as links to my other works at my website (daphnestar.com/). Of particular note is a #JRPG that's been in development for several months; at the moment development is on hold but the project is far enough along that I'm looking for a way to get back into working on it again. That game is written in #RPGMaker and features a mercenary searching for the princess he swore to protect but lost long ago. The story seems pretty basic at first glance, but once you get under the surface... By the time the game is finished, it'll contain a few significant surprises, I think. The game is called Evertrue Chronicle and it has a playable demo you can find on my itch.io page if you want to take a peek: daphnestar.itch.io/

I think that's it! Ping me if you want to say "hi" or have questions, or drop them on Retrospring (retrospring.net/@daphnestar) if you want to ask me anonymously. Feel free to send me a follow request if you like; I allow follows from any accounts with a posting history and good vibes, and follow back along similar lines (bonus points for people with interests or identities that intersect with mine). See you on the timeline!

Hi, this is my new Fediverse server. Perfect time for a new #introduction post.

I'm Paul, I'm from Scotland, a dog-daddy to River a Hungarian Vizsla/Irish Setter cross. I'm a #TrailRunner (but not far as I need to get my foot sorted), a member of #FalklandTrailRunners. I work for #Cloudsoft as a #SoftwareEngineer mostly using #Typescript. For personal projects you can pry #RustLang out of my cold, dead hands. I'm a member of Scottish Greens: for Scotland as an Independent Republic in Europe.

Well, changing instances here on Mastodon is quite easy. Here's my old intro for now:

I'm a #SoftwareEngineer and Engineering Manager for over 20 years, and a #guitar player for longer than that. I've had a broad career across industries, working for #StartUps , #Banks, #Government, #Healthcare. When my 6 year old found out I did some work for #NASA, she asked "Did they pay you to work there, or did you pay them?"

I'm currently focused on helping to mitigate #ClimateChange, hence the server choice. I'm really enjoying the #Fediverse and #Mastodon.

Ok peeps, we're 4 months into 2024 and I've been without work this whole time so we're going to try this again. If you know of any senior software engineering positions that are actually being hired for, please drop them below.

I have 12 cumulative years of experience, so that shouldn't be an issue, and I know most of the languages in use nowadays well enough to be dangerous, but I am extremely proficient in TypeScript, Python, and Ruby. What I'd rather do more than anything though is have an opportunity to use Go professionally.
