$Nestled in a patch of grass between two slabs of fractured granite is a coiled rattlesnake. Its background color is a rich reddish-brown, with narrow white bands defining a "diamond" pattern on the background color. The snake has a broad head and black eyes.$

Chaparral yucca (Hesperoyucca whipplei), Lakeview Mountains, Southern California, yesterday.

A cluster of bell-shaped, downward-facing, white flowers with a slightly greenish and purple highlights along the petal margins and sharp tips. They are all growing from a green, vertical stalk.

Nearby plant of same species, less mature. Flower panicle has not yet developed. A stalk covered with stemless, rigid, gray-green, dagger-like leaves emerges from a rosette of sword-like leaves on the ground, which is a large slab of light-colored granite.

For #WaterfallWednesday here's the "Devil's Jumpoff" waterfall near Ramona in San Diego County, California. It only runs when there's been enough rain and I made this photo after an atmospheric river storm came through, a couple of years ago.

This western bobcat (Lynx rufus fasciatus) came down from the hills about an hour ago to get a drink from our pool.
