It's time for a #Measles dashboard update:

The landing page now has a histogram AND a national map, capturing statewide totals. This is especially valuable since some states aren't including county data, or are including divisions like regions, which can't be captured on the cases-by-county map.

This project was constructed from local and state data first: I don't pull from CDC's national totals, but I do check my data against them frequently. Wherever local and state data aren't available, I use news articles. Every entry includes a source link in the cases-by-county table.

My Apple Card flagged the renewal to Microsoft 365 as fraud. Not kidding. But then again the AC flags a lot of stuff as fraud (Pro tip DO NOT rely on this card for travel) and it's normally annoying as hell but this time it reminded me to just cancel and use OpenOffice. I only edit one spreadsheet, and that only because Tableau won't read numbers files.

Wow. The licensing process for #Tableau has become absolutely miserable. I'm 6 hours, maybe more, into the process of...giving them money for a license key.

And still, nothing is working.

At some point this is going to get me to invest the time in learning R and any associated graphing libraries. Even no support on open source is way better than this -- not to mention cheaper. #dataviz #datavisualization

We value the most delicate things, like soap bubbles made of glass. The thinner, more-fragile it is, the more we admire it.

The reason is its inherent #ephemeral character. A #flower, an #ornament, a #tableau… These are precious things, a moment in time, a memory.

And they will pass. You cannot keep them forever. When they inevitably do change to something more prosaic - withered petals, shattered pieces - celebrate the joy they gave, and the constancy of change.
