Juno<p>Been wondering for a while what I could use to test tori's interactive dialogs. Trying to find a "selenium of TUIs". Today I was exploring what other projects do to test theirs, and it occurred to me that perhaps tmux could do what I needed.</p><p>It took me a few minutes in its man pages to realize I had been developing tori all along inside the very answer to my question.</p><p>tmux has commands allowing you to spawn panes and immediately get their ID, then send arbitrary key inputs to that pane, and also read its current contents. I'm very happy that the glitches I was experiencing with <a href="https://bitbang.social/tags/tmux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>tmux</span></a> on <a href="https://bitbang.social/tags/HaikuOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HaikuOS</span></a> R1B4 are now gone. On R1B5 it's now rock solid.</p><p>If I get time, I'll look into updating the version of tmux for Haiku. I know it's a little out of date (3.1c vs 3.4).</p>

With <a href="https://social.sdf.org/tags/tmux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>tmux</span></a> both create perfect env for work, especially on ssh session. But some time ago I found that <a href="https://social.sdf.org/tags/emacs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>emacs</span></a> with tramp mode lets me work remotely from Windows on files in Unix System Services (z/OS IBM Mainframe system) and remotely trigger compilation. So I’ve been started exploring emacs and learning <a href="https://social.sdf.org/tags/emacslisp" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>emacslisp</span></a>. For short actions vi is the best (because it exists), but for bigger projects emacs seems to be … at least interesting. 😉</p>
