The Crested ibis, or Toki, is a bird that went extinct about 40 years ago on Japan’s Sado Island.
Later, seven Toki were discovered in China. And thanks to conservation efforts, there are now over 500 Tokis sharing rice and land with the people of Sado. Bravo!

Last night, a near super-pod gathering of the southern residents occurred in their traditional home of the Salish Sea. In Miami, their relative Tokitae was in the final hours of her life.
