The #racist, voter-surpressing, #idf-supporting, #book-banning, #transphobic piece of SHIT #BrianKemp - governor of #georgia is scheduled for a private event at my venue.

I'm am refusing to turn up for work because that man and everything he stands for goes against me, my #union, and everyone I have ever known and loved.

***

Hello all,

This is a note to let you know I will not be coming to work tomorrow. The reason for this is because I do not feel comfortable performing my duties in the included company of the vicious, racist criminal Brian P Kemp - governor of Georgia, usa, and thus am taking a personal day in conscientious objection to his presence.

I cannot in good conscience aid or abbet, let alone stand by the celebration of a human being capable of committing the crimes he has against millions, but specifically hundreds of thousands of black & marginalised constituents he had sworn to protect under their constitution.

Instead, he surpressed votes, participated in election fraud, leaked the personal information (including social security numbers) of over 6 million voters, suppressed investigation into sexual abuse by a wealthy doner, enacted the strictest abortion laws in the country –killing women, tried to destroy free healthcare for the poorest, and busted & opposed labour unions.

He personally purchased over $10M in israeli war bonds to help the idf murder Arab civilians and steal their land. He then enacted a bill that “falsely equates critiques of Israel and Zionism with discrimination against Jewish people" surpressing protest & free speech. If I were in Georgia, he'd have me in jail just for wearing my keffiyeh.

He enacted an anti-transgender ban on treatment for prisoners, and another for youth - costing untold lives of innocent children.

He passed multiple laws to ban books and the teaching of "critical race theory" which in practise amounts to complete whitewashing of history and current affairs.

Furthermore, I do not feel safe in the presence of US state troopers - whether or not they are armed.

I am disgusted that a member (or members) of a fascist dictatorship would be welcomed into our venue, and I will have **NO** part in it now, or ever in the future.

Racism flourishes when we support racists.
Fascism flourishes when we support fascists.
Racism ends when we shun racists.
Fascism ends when we shun fascists.

Sincerely,

Sean Boyer

"The military ban is particularly egregious in that it targets adults who have volunteered to potentially give their lives for their country, something #Trump himself got exemption from ...citing bone spurs. These people have passed every test they’ve faced along the way and built careers of service, only to see a president and his #transphobic administration seize power and drive them out using noxious, bigoted language to do so."

Discrimination against trans Olympians has roots in #NaziGermany

The forgotten Olympic history of #TransAthletes.

by Alex Abad-Santos
Updated Aug 1, 2024

Excerpt: "Outside of the [Olympic] Games, trans people face so much backlash, often for simply existing. The conversation around sports is particularly fraught, from children’s athletics right up through the pros. Despite the International Olympic Committee vowing to be more inclusive, the future for trans athletes is unclear.

"It all raises the question: How did we get to this point, and did it always have to be this way?

"The answers found in historian and journalist #MichaelWaters’s The Other Olympians: #Fascism, #Queerness, and the Making of Modern Sports might be surprising. Waters’s book traces the emergence of #ZdeněkKoubek, a track and field star representing the country formerly known as Czechoslovakia who, at 21, won two medals — a gold in the 800m and a bronze in the long jump — at the 1934 Women’s World Games. (The Women’s World Games was the precursor to women competing at the Olympics). In 1935, Koubek announced that he would be living life as a man and swiftly became an international celebrity.

"Perhaps the most intriguing facet to Koubek’s story was in the public response. Koubek was more welcomed and celebrated than we might imagine. There was an open-mindedness and empathy to the reception of Koubek and his gender identity and expression in the 1930s.

"Waters also pinpoints where and when that changed, specifically at the #1936Olympics in #Nazi Germany. Armed with a propensity for #eugenics, #GenderAnxiety, and a startling lack of scientific evidence, a small set of Nazi officials influenced the International Olympic Committee into #GenderSurveillance and #TransPanic — stuff that eerily mirrors the #transphobic attacks that athletes, cis and trans alike, face today."

Hey, hi, hello!

Just a quick reminder that I have many #trans mutuals and followers and that I will *aggressively* work to ensure my posts (and their accompanying threads) are a safe place for them.

So if you roll up to my virtual house with with #transphobic nonsense, I will block you and report you to your server. And if you decide to come back under another account, we'll move on to public shaming.

DO NOT come for my friends because I do not play nice.

And a very good morning to everyone else :blobfoxheartcute:

Continued thread

"accusations of #CancelCulture" are typically aimed at younger or lower-status people, specifically so higher-status folks don't have "to reflect on their own practices."

It's "cancel culture" when #ElonMusk or #JKRowling is criticized for #transphobic rhetoric, but not when billionaires or #Republican politicians focus public anger on ordinary people who don't conform to gender norms."
