Judges Henderson, Wilkins, & Childs, of the #DC #Court of Appeals states that the #discovery order granted #CREW's request to depose Amy Gleason, the *alleged* acting administrator of #DOGE.

(In his order, Judge Cooper noted that parts of a declaration submitted by Gleason appear to be "called into question by contradictory evidence..")

Judge Illston listed services that could disappear if the offices that administer them were wiped out, including #DisasterRelief funds for #farmers after a #flood, in-person appointments for #SocialSecurity recipients to discuss their #benefits, #workplace #safety inspections in #mines & #grants that support #kindergarten programs.

Judge Illston noted that process requires consultation with #Congress on any plan to abolish or transfer part of an agency.

“It is the prerogative of presidents to pursue new policy priorities & to imprint their stamp on the #FederalGovernment,” she wrote in a 42-page order. “But to make large-scale overhauls of federal agencies, any president must enlist the help of his #CoequalBranch & partner, the Congress.”

Of all the lawsuits challenging #Trump’s vision to dramatically scale back the form & function of the #FederalGovernment, this one is poised to have the broadest effect. Most of the agencies have yet to announce their downsizing plans, but employees across the govt have been anxiously waiting for announcements that have been expected for weeks.

An additional minimum 10% reduction in general & flag officers would be required in the second phase.

The announcement comes after #Trump fired #JointChiefs of Staff chair Gen Charles "CQ" Brown, Jr & other top #military leaders in Feb.

“Less Generals More GIs,” #Hegseth said in a video about the overhaul.

"We're going to shift resources from bloated headquarters elements to our war fighters," Hegseth said of the changes, which he described as "historic."

#SafetyNet cuts: #Trump proposed slashing some federal safety net programs, confirming early #budget documents reviewed last week by NYT. Those recommended cuts include trimming more than $26 billion in federal #RentalAssistance.

Traditionally the #DOJ’s #CivilRights division has protected the #ConstitutionalRights of *minority* communities & marginalized people, often by monitoring police departments for civil rights violations, protecting the right to vote & fighting housing discrimination.

Now, more than a dozen current & former civil rights division lawyers say, the new admin appears intent on not simply modifying the direction of the work…
