EVERY company should already pay it's fair share in #taxes That would bring in enough money for #UBI

"AI could wipe out more specialized white-collar roles that may have required years of expensive training and education — and those workers may not be so easily retrained for equal or higher-paying jobs.

Amodei suggested that lawmakers may even need to consider levying a tax on AI companies."

"Susan Campbell (opinion): Is Connecticut ready for Universal Basic Income?"

"Connecticut needs this. The current presidential administration wants to make deep cuts to Medicaid, cut SNAP as it’s never been cut before, and grant rich people unneeded tax cuts. While the world burns around us, maybe we can provide for residents a modicum of stability. This is the time, and Connecticut is the place."

Another win-win and progressive way of making sure that nobody is left behind:

"Albuquerque [New Mexico, USA] is now funding a #BasicIncome project with its tax on recreational cannabis."

"Through these and many other measures, along with the basic income assistance, our community will reap long-term public health #benefits reductions in addiction rates, and taxpayer savings".

Wikipedia: In his Utopia, English statesman and philosopher Thomas More depicts a society in which every person receives a #GuaranteedIncome

"No penalty on earth will stop people from stealing, if it's their only way of getting food"

"instead of inflicting these horrible punishments, it would be far more to the point to provide everyone with some means of livelihood, so that nobody's under the frightful necessity of becoming first a thief, then a corpse."

Great news 🥳

A #UniversalBasicIncome study from #SouthAfrica simulated the benefits of income support based on 2017 data. It shows that wider income support for everyone from 18 to 59 - not only those unemployed - would benefit society the most:

"this universal support has the biggest overall impact on poverty and inequality reduction because more South Africans receive income support under this scenario."👏

If you want a visual representation of where #UniversalBasicIncome projects have been conducted, have a look at this website.

It clearly shows that #UBI is a popular and worthy goal to achieve. ❤️

🤓 Please note: the criticism that UBI disincentivizes us to work has been de-bunked.

Money can’t buy happiness…but #UBI buys breathing room!

What if we stopped tying survival to 40-hour grindfests?

#UniversalBasicIncome isn’t a magic wand—it’s a trampoline. Studies show cash with no strings = less stress, more art, weird small businesses, and happier humans. Turns out existential panic isn’t a great motivator!

Let’s build an economy where “thriving” isn’t a #luxury Who’s in?

(P.S. Skeptics welcome! But bring data, not doom.)

Here's an interesting, balanced article on #UBI coming out of Massachusetts, USA.

My main points of criticism are:
- It is based on short term pilot projects instead of an ongoing UBI
- It compares UBI to negative tax and similar proposals. This would require people to have well paying jobs to pay income tax
- A gradual change may not be enough for the upcoming job automation

Thoughts?

IF only I had a dollar for ever time I hear that the "system" needs to be changed and that the "system" is at fault and the "system" keeps us in badly paid jobs....

Well, let's change the system. Yes, we can. One example of a country that did things differently in 2008, look at Iceland which imprisoned bankers after 2008 financial crisis.

Vox · Iceland put bankers in jail rather than bailing them out — and it workedBy Matthew Yglesias

“But who will clean toilets if everyone gets UBI?

Maybe… the people who want to do it, at a fair wage? Maybe... the task will get automated?

Maybe the real question is: why do we accept that some jobs should be so miserable and underpaid that people only do them out of desperation?

#UBI forces us to value labor instead of exploiting it and it gives us the freedom to choose the jobs we take. ❤️

An great article in #TheConversation on Ontario’s basic income pilot:

"We found that increased income security improved participants’ mental health, reduced their stress and allowed them to improve diets with healthier food options. Some spoke of no longer having to rely on food charity as they could go the grocery store like everyone else."

Tha'ts what #UBI recipients want to do: live a dignified life like #everyone else. ❤️
