Mario Alberto Guzmán<p>I think I found probably the best implementation of <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/LiquidGlass" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LiquidGlass</span></a> effects by UI designer &amp; Artist <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@7luyuhang" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>7luyuhang</span></a></span>. I’m blown away.</p><p>In this case, some of the Liquid Glass effects like the borders/edges of a glass surface are captured for some buttons and the LCD display. Looks AMAZING! Love how the REC light bounces off the edge.</p><p>Honestly what <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@7luyuhang" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>7luyuhang</span></a></span> does is what I thought Apple’s UI would have evolved into. Mario Alberto Guzmán<p>And same goes for playlist views. When did it become more acceptable that the playlist metadata was far more important than the music content itself?</p><p>I don't need the artwork and titles to be that huge.</p><p>I sorta like the solution I did for my old "marioTunes" app (lol) a while back. Mario Alberto Guzmán<p>It's crazy how much Apple's music app has regressed on macOS. Look how well they made use of available space when opening an album in iTunes while still preserving the artwork. All while still being in the context of browsing your albums.</p><p>Music.app, on the other hand, nothing but useless whitespace and awful use of space -- especially on smaller displays like the MacBook Air.</p><p>They also removed the fun theming based on the artwork.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/macOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>macOS</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/iTunes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>iTunes</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/AppleMusic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AppleMusic</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/UIUX" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>UIUX</span></a></p>

Mario Alberto Guzmán<p>Lesson 1 in <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/UIUX" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>UIUX</span></a>... your buttons should not be moving targets. Mario Alberto Guzmán<p>We need art. We need flair. We need creativity. We need elements that spark wonder. Mario Alberto Guzmán<p>I know, I know, I pick on Apple UI the most. But here's another UI/UX absolute NO-NO.</p><p>Notice how the control for Mail Categories changes form and size &amp; not only that, but also changes the sizing of my column.</p><p>No control should change your window's layout based on its state. That's just a big no-no.</p><p>Also I don't like how the "All Mail" button hides when it isn't the active state. Why? People will think of this as a segmented control and segmented controls don't behave this way.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/macOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>macOS</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/UIUX" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>UIUX</span></a></p>

I had a twisted discussion today with the customer service team you’re supposed to contact when you have website suggestions for a large healthcare company.

I had to repeat the issue I faced with their recent redesign of a major module, and the easy way to solve it, two times. Then the rep wanted me to load the website in their app (although the issue was with the web UI), and then reload the website in my browser. Ummm, should I make sure my computer is plugged in too? Needless to say, when I was asked to repeat the issue a third time, I quickly departed the call.

Not quite what I expected given how the team was billed!

Q: Can web design be "overly" accessible? (ie too many accessibility features, reducing usabilty)
---
"No. I’d define overly accessible as inaccessible. You can make the experience worse by implementing accessibility features incorrectly, which is the antithesis of accessibility as a practice / design philosophy."

Great UI/UX in data platforms isn’t optional—it’s essential. 🎨
By applying psychology, I design dashboards that feel intuitive, engaging & effective.
Here are my top principles:
🔹 Aesthetic Usability: Make it look good & users trust it more.
🔹 Visual Hierarchy: Prioritise key metrics for faster decisions.
🔹 Cognitive Load: “One screen, one story” for clarity.
