Thanks to our network of supporters, #EU_OS benefits from early access to a study from the Commission @EC_DIGIT on the in-house use of #Linux on the workspace. It is from 2005 and was revealed through an request for access to documents. Stay tuned and follow #EU_OS as we will publish the report on https://eu-os.eu in the next days and analyse which aspects apply still in 2025.

Yes, there are ways to bypass this restriction … but that's not really a solution, is it?
The solution is to use software that treats users with respect and let's them decide how to best use their computer.
#Windows11 requires a Microsoft account to complete the setup process.
No online account, no working computer!
That account enables #OneDrive and saves your files to the cloud, by default. It helps #Microsoft upsell #Microsoft365, #OneDrive, and #GamePass subscriptions. And it means Microsoft can more easily track users across its services.
Whether the user wants it or not.
Reason 8 To Choose Linux
No online account required!
With #Linux you don't need to create an online account to set up or enjoy your new operating system.
As it should be.
It's that simple.

End of 10
"Support for Windows 10 ends on October 14 2025. Microsoft wants you to buy a new computer. But what if you could make your current one fast and secure again?"
https://endof10.org/
If Microsoft's suggestion that you send your perfectly good PC to landfill and spend a fortune on a new one so that they can spy on you and inject ads into your operating system seems a bit ripe, then it may be time to cut the cord.
Here are some options:
Tomorrow MONDAY 4 August #Linux install party in #Panama (times local)!
* Linux: An alternative to Windows at Boquete Library, #BajoBoquete 11-12h30
A community chat on the top floor of #Boquete Library to learn more about Linux as an alternative to Windows.

Before #Windows10 goes #EOL, I'm testing three alternative #Linux distros to save my 6-year-old laptop from the landfill
To start using #Windows11 in a productive manner you need something like an Intel 9th Gen CPU and 16GB of RAM, along with 512GB of fast storage as a comfortable minimum.
The author is testing #CachyOS and #ArchLinux derivative, #L:inuxMint, and #ZorinOS
Though I think they should try Vanilla #Ubuntu and #RockyLinux too

#Windows10 is ending support. Migrating to #Linux at scale isn’t easy, but it can save time, money, and boost security. Real-world lessons from #TheGreatMigration at #oSC25. #openSUSE https://youtu.be/q9y84viC9rY?si=A71OA8QKccGljxJL

I think this meme needs more love.
Full credit goes to William Papadin at https://www.youtube.com/@nobleknightadventures who made the original video. Not my edit, just found it on a shady site. Original video can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_Z7st2AeaM

Work PC received #Windows11 #24H2 today. While waiting for the update of #ExplorerPatcher https://github.com/valinet/ExplorerPatcher to get my #Windows10 taskbar back, I found #QuickLaunch https://github.com/chrizonix/QuickLaunch , which will let you add the content of a folder to your taskbar again. The second it takes to show up is painful, but it's still better than nothing, for the moment.
#WindowsRecall is opt in -- for now. Microsoft can change that at any point. Being #ProprietarySoftware users can do nothing about it.
Disabling #MicrosoftCopilot isn't easy … and in some cases it appears not to stay disabled:
