I really need to re-connect with my #spiritual practice. I’ve felt so disconnected & adrift — I’m blaming the world at large for this general malaise.

I’m being asked about #witches & #covens by a friend’s husband, who wants to be part of something. I’m thinking “Get in line, buddy.”

So I gave him my 30 second elevator pitch on what I think & it’s probably not helpful.

Today's hike was up and around Pendle Hill, probably most famous for the Witch Trials 400 years ago which resulted in nearly a dozen people (mostly women) being put to death for witchcraft.

Near Pendle today there is a sculpture trail, supposedly inspired by the witches' stories, although the connections are I think fairly tenuous.

They may appear to be only sculptures but we took no chances and were of course suitably polite to the fae creatures of the forest.

I have made some art, like this monoprint, about some of the many folk traditions around May Day. May Eve is celebrated with bonfires for Walpurgisnacht and Hexennacht (Walpurgis night and Witches’ Night as celebrated in Germany). May Eve is the feast day of Saint Walpurga in celebration of her canonization May 1, 870. But folklorists tie it to a more ancient celebration 🧵
