Jake in the desert<p>Today (May 5) in 1992, Wolfenstein 3D was released for DOS. There are very few things as satisfying as killing digital Nazis. </p><p>I was asked to talk about Wolfenstein 3D a while back on the <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://dosgame.club/@dosgameclub" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>dosgameclub</span></a></span> podcast (<a href="https://www.dosgameclub.com/wolfenstein3d" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="">dosgameclub.com/wolfenstein3d</span><span class="invisible"></span></a>) with <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://dosgame.club/@Tijn" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>Tijn</span></a></span> and some other folks-- that was a blast. </p><p>I still play the DOS version of Wolf 3D sometimes myself, and sometimes the Xbox 360 version on the Series X. And sure, you could buy the original for just a dollar or two on Steam. But you can also download it for FREE (or play it for free in your browser via DOSBox) at one of my all-time favorite sites on the web, DOS Gaming dot com, here: <a href="https://dosgames.com/game/wolfenstein-3d" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">dosgames.com/game/wolfenstein-</span><span class="invisible">3d</span></a>. </p><p>Additionally, Wolfenstein 3D has been archived here at archive dot org! <a href="https://archive.org/details/wolfenstein3d_202105" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">archive.org/details/wolfenstei</span><span class="invisible">n3d_202105</span></a></p><p>💥</p><p><a href="https://c.im/tags/Wolfenstein3D" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Wolfenstein3D</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/DOSGames" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DOSGames</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/90s" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>90s</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/90sGames" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>90sGames</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/fps" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>fps</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/1990s" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>1990s</span></a></p>
Jake in the desert<p>32 years ago today on May 5 1992, one of the greatest games of all time (and forever my favorite first person shooter), Wolfenstein 3D, was released. I wrote about it for the list of 20 video games I can't stop thinking about (<a href="https://spacetimetech.wordpress.com/2024/04/06/20-video-games-i-cant-stop-thinking-about" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">spacetimetech.wordpress.com/20</span><span class="invisible">24/04/06/20-video-games-i-cant-stop-thinking-about</span></a>). I still play it regularly. Sometimes weekly. Killing digital Nazis is always fun and therapeutic. </p><p>You can play Wolfenstein 3D FREE in browser here: <a href="https://dosgames.com/game/wolfenstein-3d" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">dosgames.com/game/wolfenstein-</span><span class="invisible">3d</span></a>) and you can also download it free and run it on your own machine via DOSBox. Wolf 3D is also on Steam (<a href="https://store.steampowered.com/app/2270/Wolfenstein_3D" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">store.steampowered.com/app/227</span><span class="invisible">0/Wolfenstein_3D</span></a>) for a few bucks, and on the Microsoft store (the port of the 360 version). Now if they'd only port it to Switch! 😂</p><p>Happy birthday, B.J. Blazkowicz. 🎂</p><p><a href="https://c.im/tags/Wolfenstein3D" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Wolfenstein3D</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/Wolf3D" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Wolf3D</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/fps" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>fps</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/90s" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>90s</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/90sGames" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>90sGames</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/DOSGames" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DOSGames</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/Apogee" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Apogee</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/RetroGaming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RetroGaming</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/Wolfenstein" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Wolfenstein</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/DOSGaming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DOSGaming</span></a></p>

Mufasa<p>James Howard game developer and tech enthusiast tweets:</p><p>A fun side project I worked on over the Christmas break - adapting the Wolfenstein 3D renderer to work in CGA! Here it is running in all of its 4 colour glory.</p><p>Shout out to Fabien Sanglard for his excellent 'Game Engine Black Book' that details the inner workings of the Wolfenstein 3D code. It proved extremely useful when modifying the renderer!</p><p><a href="https://betweenthelions.link/tags/RetroGaming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RetroGaming</span></a> <a href="https://betweenthelions.link/tags/CGA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CGA</span></a> <a href="https://betweenthelions.link/tags/Wolfenstein3D" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Wolfenstein3D</span></a><br><a href="https://twitter.com/Jameshhoward/status/1612537687356891143" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">twitter.com/Jameshhoward/statu</span><span class="invisible">s/1612537687356891143</span></a></p><p><a href="https://nitter.poast.org/Jameshhoward/status/1612537687356891143" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">nitter.poast.org/Jameshhoward/</span><span class="invisible">status/1612537687356891143</span></a></p>
