Hello, I'm an #EarlyRetired #GenX former #Unix #Linux #Storage #Networking etc #SystemAdmin residing in #Lethbridge #Alberta #Canada
This is my self hosted #iceshrimp instance for me, myself, and I.
Related, I have a self hosted #vernissage instance where I post things I find while wandering around with the cameras. You can find those at @another
I intend to post via short handwritten notes, using fountain pens and whatever paper is at hand. (attempting to anyways... A keyboard is a bad habit that is hard to give up.)
My toots are ephemeral and might be deleted at any time.
(I run irregular sweeps of my posts and zap them when I feel like it.)
I prefer to stay away from politics, when possible. I may boost or create a #shitpost or #meme about them from time to time. Those are more likely to be deleted sooner than other posts.
Here is a pile of hashtags related to me :

#Introduction
Posting mostly via short handwritten notes, in an attempt to be brief and to think a little bit before posting. Also, to spend less time here. Futile effort probably, but let's see what happens.

Good grief: yet another reason why inflexible Rx refill dates can be dangerous!

@dabertime unfortunately, if I open up the BBQ lid, the howling wind will pick it up like a kite. #yql
This is why I've paid little attention to this plan to date, as #Alberta already claws back 100% of #CPPD benefits from eligible #AISH recipients.
> "As the federal government’s Canada Disability Benefit has been discussed, the province’s have mulled how they might treat the new benefit and whether they would claw back their own supports for people living with disabilities,” …
Recommended reads on the struggle for #transEquality in #Alberta:
Review TESA's newsroom media releases for a capsule overview of concerns spanning 2009 to the present.
Many of these include references to policies, regulations, statutes, and even international treaties that MAY STILL be relevant to respecting the rights of #trans children and youth.
See also reports made to provincial/federal officials.
Hey #Alberta, apparently we have #whoopingCough going around.
Trust me, none of you EVER want this. Sure, you are likely to be eventually 'well' again but until then, coughing so hard you cannot intake breath *and also vomitting* will sap your will to live.
It's been ~10 yrs since someone shared this infection with me, and my vocal folds are *still* damaged, requiring daily warmups before I attempt to speak. Avoid at all costs!
This goofball and I should be in the middle of nowhere hiking and looking for grouse this week. Instead, I am busy coughing and dealing with a secondary sinus infection because no one in Alberta cares about the health of others anymore.
(sidenote, the dog is a Large Munsterlander, an uncommon breed in Canada).
There is a long history of aberrantly coloured magpies in Alberta, although mainly in Edmonton. Over the past several weeks, this greyish one has been showing up to our yard. Unclear to me if this is due to altered melanin or structural (or both).
Still quite a few mountain bluebirds hanging out in the coulee of the Oldman River this week.

Backyard birding yesterday led to seeing a pair of American goldfinches feeding on our sunflowers. #yql #Alberta #WildCanada #birds #birding
Still plenty of mountain bluebirds foraging on the banks of the Oldman River in southern Alberta this week. #yql #WildCanada #birds #birdsofmastodon #birding
As I struggle to work out a means of dealing with a university staff member who claims that my students and I will "relieve ourselves in the bushes" if we are allowed to conduct field experiments on campus, please enjoy this close up view of an Eastern tube-nosed bat at the Tolga Bat Hospital, QLD. #wildOz #academia #yql #bats
