#ThinSectionThursday 🤩 🤓 A C19th thin section of Scottish agate, using different polarized light techniques, from the Heddle collection in the Hunterian museum. Agate is basically quartz, but has a distinctive micro/nano-structure of tiny elongate, often twisted fibres at right angles to the bands. This section is a bit thicker than modern standard of 30 microns so colours are a bit more intense. FOV ca. 2mm wide. See Alt text for more. #Geology #Microscopy #Agate #Mineralogy

More #wirewrapping for #smallbusiness saturday: Moss green agate #pendant wrapped in copper wire, tiny beads and genuine #swarovskicrystals.
