#Measles outbreak in #Alberta far exceeds it's past provincial peak in 1986, that of #Texas currently and even entire #USA known caseload. Once considered "eradicated" , this highly transmissible contagious #disease has hit hard this year in #Canada, with noted 1000+ case upticks as well in #Ontario. Young #children and elderly highly susceptible to rash and side effects including lung & ear infections, #hepatitis, #Encephalitis and other lifelong neurological compilations.

#Vaccination rates are lower in Alberta than Canada as a whole by dbl digits, with more than 50% of children in rural areas of Southern Alberta, the heart of this outbreak, not having standard vaccination shots. So-called "vaccine-hesitancy" is generally more common in relatively less populated rural areas that attract political ideologues and those historically isolating and living under strict religious beliefs. Many of the most virulent cases of measles have been linked to Mennonites and Hutterites who live in colonies, and are oft prone to believe it is God’s will that determine the #health status of offspring.

Please remind your #2SLGBTQIA+ friends in #Alberta that #Canada is signatory to the #UnitedNations Convention on the Rights of the Child, and the censorship of books by the province would break our international obligations to uphold Article 13 and Article 14 of the convention:

Edmonton #Alberta public art installation among 100 projects up for global award

“The installation consists of 13 pastel coloured, vintage-inspired telephones strewn throughout Butler Memorial Park, in a gritty part of #Edmonton just west of its downtown centre.

Connected like an intercom, picking up one telephone causes another to ring on the other side of the park.”

> Dessler, who specialises in climate change, traces the source of the resistance to the fossil fuel industry, which with its mega-donations to Republican politicians wields a big stick. “It’s the political power of fossil fuels, and their ability to keep everybody in line.”
Something Albertans know only too well.

The Guardian · The Texas way: why the most disaster-prone US state is so allergic to preparing for disastersBy Ed Pilkington

Hybrid Peonies. Not my kind of flowers, really, I prefer more natural forms, with fully functioning sexy bits for the pollinators! These have been here a long time (this is one of 3 plants in different spots, there's one gigantic plant) planted by my mom and/or aunt a few decades ago. They are photogenic, though, and remind me of old Dutch Master still life paintings. Photos over 3 days. #gardening #Alberta #Canada #heritage #memories #photography #BloomScrolling #July

Was really hoping to get some solid imaging while out in decent Bortle 4 skies this weekend but nOoOoOo… managed to get 279 10sec subs of NGC 7635 (Bubble Nebula) before these jerks rolled back in. 🙄

The Bubble Nebula is an emission nebula in the constellation of Cassiopeia, or a gaseous cloud that - in this case - a young central star is exciting to create visible, infrared, ultraviolet and other light.

The light captured tonight has been travelling through our universe for anywhere between 7100 and 11,000 years, just to hit the sensor in my telescope for us to view. We’ll never know what this cloud of gas looks like today, or if it even exists anymore. It’s like looking back in time.

#Alberta's #transgender Sept 1 ban in women's sports won't apply to out-of-province athletes
