wav3ydave<p>Today's a bail sadly. Bit off a bit more than I could chew with the route (too much off-road!) so headed to warminster to catch the train the rest of the way. 160km in total but I just didn't have the last 50km in the tank... <a href="https://mas.to/tags/BikeTooter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BikeTooter</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/cycling" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>cycling</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/audax" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>audax</span></a></p>

Alexander<p>Some of you saw my The Giant Circle post sharing the RWGPS track. Comments and likes all appreciated.</p><p>Now I've finally got round to writing proper reflections.</p><p>The reality of three days grinding round southern England (spoiler: brilliant and bonkers in equal measure)</p><p>How my ride buddy and I tackled it together until we didn't, and why that was the right call</p><p>The genuine low points: endless Fenland straights, sleep deprivation, and my hopeless mental arithmetic</p><p>Those moments that make it worthwhile – dawn in the Peak District, camaraderie, the satisfaction of keeping the pedals turning</p><p>Plus the mundane but important stuff: bivvy spots, garage food strategies, and why my left brake lever going wonky at 800k nearly sent me into a proper spiral.</p><p>If you've wondered what it's like to ride a huge loop for three days straight, or fancy a read about stubbornness, scenery, and the peculiar joys of audaxing, give it a look.</p><p><a href="https://www.bongotwisty.blog/the-giant-circle/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">bongotwisty.blog/the-giant-cir</span><span class="invisible">cle/</span></a></p><p><a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/cycling" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>cycling</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/audax" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>audax</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/biketooter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>biketooter</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/RRtY" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RRtY</span></a></p>
Alexander<p>That was totally bonkers!! 1000k DIY <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/RRtY" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RRtY</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/audax" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>audax</span></a> done. The route was like a tangled ball of string at the end. Gonna take a few days coming down from and making any sense of that ride. Sleep deprivation, heat, just the overall non-stop push on to completion. Finished with a few hours in hand. Resting up today. Feeling pretty accomplished. Wish I could stay asleep. <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/cycling" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>cycling</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/BikeTooter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BikeTooter</span></a></p>
Alexander<p>🗺️ All set for the off tomorrow at 6.00 am. Bikes cleaned (so it will probably rain at some point). Bivvy bag and what not packed in the saddle bag. 75 hours to ride the 1000k DIY Audax I've planned for June's RRtY. 334 k a day. If it all goes pear shaped I've still got Monday to get a last minute 200k in. Sam :moomin_hattifatteners:<p>I've entered the National Indoor Field Championship ( <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/archery" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>archery</span></a> ) the day after the Dug's Heid <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/audax" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>audax</span></a>. I feel like I should probably go to one or the other, but my archery club is fielding a few teams and I'd ruin the numbers if I pulled out. I'm going to be so tired.</p>
Sam :moomin_hattifatteners:<p>I would strongly recommend reading the FAQ. RtN is NOT a race, nor is it aimed at those who want to treat it like one. It's more like an <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/audax" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>audax</span></a> with very well organised -- and frequent! -- controls, and a lot of local community involvement. Although last year verged on Type 2 at times (that climb up the Caterthuns was brutal), it was a fantastic experience.</p>
Sam :moomin_hattifatteners:<p>Was really hoping to get out on the bike today, but it's blowing an absolute hoolie. Trying not to think about how it's less than 2 months until the Dug's Heid <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/audax" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>audax</span></a> and I haven't been out on the bike since November because of flu. It'll be grand.</p>

wav3ydave<p>So I was a bit broken on the last leg and went straight to bed when I got home.
