The Morombe region in western #Madagascar is home to one of the largest #Baobab sanctuaries in the world.

Pictured here, the most imposing one in the country, with a circumference of 29 meters. It was named TSITAKAKANTSA by the inhabitants of the village of Andobiry, which literally means “the singing on one side of this baobab is not audible on the other side."

Here I am touching a baobab tree somewhere in Botswana in 2017. This is somewhere in the Okavango Delta. I adore these ancient trees. This one may very well be over 1000 years old. Its bark feels something like the stem of a jade plant. #tree #baobab #Botswana #TreeHugger

While this #ThickTrunkTuesday contribution is admittedly not the best #baobab specimen I have seen, it was a wonderful surprise as we made the long drive from #ngorongoro crater into #arusha #Tanzania. After navigating the busy street to take this photo I soon realized that there was an entire forest of baobabs poking out of the surrounding hills. The students were all sleeping so I had this magical moment to myself. How I love baobabs!
