That Deaf Guy<p>UK folk..... go to your local library, join it, use your new library card and PIN to open accounts on the Libby and BorrowBox apps. Heather<p>I've discovered <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/BorrowBox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BorrowBox</span></a> today. I don't know if all <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/libraries" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>libraries</span></a> are signed up, but through those that are, if you have a libary card, you get free access to books, magazines and papers through your phone. I've spent much of today ambling through The Rugby Paper, BBC History Magazine, a couple of naff knitting magazines and now BBC Easy Food which is giving me lots of ideas for easy meals, as I've got a bit bored with meals lately. It's an incredible system.</p>

Psymo<p>I have acquired an old <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Kobo" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Kobo</span></a> that I need to get up and running. Unfortunately our library doesn't use a platform that is compatible (we've got <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/BorrowBox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BorrowBox</span></a> atm). Does anyone have any experience with Kobo? Where to find reading material etc?</p>
katharina<p>I can't remember who recommended this book to me (someone on here) but I just finished it and thought it was very good. If is about an elderly couple that lose their home and with it their income. Unsure what to do they decide to walk "the salt path" along the coast living in a tent. Homeless and hungry they struggle along and we with them. Totally recommend it. I listened to the audiobook through the library app borrowbox.<br><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/book" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>book</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/books" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>books</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/bookstodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>bookstodon</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/borrowbox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>borrowbox</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/library" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>library</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/audiobook" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>audiobook</span></a></p>
katharina<p>Just finished "down and out in London and Paris" by George Orwell and it was a great book. Its kind of a biography of when Orwell was dirt poor, first in paris, where he at least managed to keep his accommodation but went hungry a lot and then in London where he was homeless. I think a lot of it still applies today and it's an interesting read regardless. So highly recommend! <br><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/poverty" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>poverty</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/bookstodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>bookstodon</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/literature" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>literature</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/book" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>book</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/audiobook" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>audiobook</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/borrowbox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>borrowbox</span></a></p>
katharina<p>Another great murder mystery by Anthony horowitz. This is the 4th? Book in the hawthorn series and I really like his style. The self deprecating humour, the blurring of lines between reality and fiction, the unlikeable detective and the secrecy. Well anyways if you like murder mysteries I highly recommend this one! I listened to it on the borrowbox app and I think horowitz reads it himself.<br><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/book" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>book</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/bookstodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>bookstodon</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/murdermystery" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>murdermystery</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/fiction" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>fiction</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/crimefiction" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>crimefiction</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/audiobook" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>audiobook</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/borrowbox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>borrowbox</span></a></p>

katharina<p>Good morning. I have just finished listening to "about a boy" by nick hornby on the Borrowbox app. I really liked it. I came across it by reading "just like you" reviews on goodreads (which I also listened to but thought felt a little flat). What I liked about "about a boy" compared to "just like you" was that you actually understood why the characters liked each other and that they grew fond of each other over time. <br><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/BorrowBox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BorrowBox</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/borrowbooks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>borrowbooks</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/books" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>books</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/bookstodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>bookstodon</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/library" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>library</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/literature" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>literature</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/novels" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>novels</span></a></p>

I can't believe it took me 43 days to get through #RaisingSteam. Very enjoyable but I'm still not sure of this Moist character & whether I like him or not
#Maskerade & #Pyramids were delivered to #BorrowBox weeks ago. I started Maskerade as its got the shortest lend time left

(Reading order 👇)
18: Soul Music
19: I Shall Wear Midnight
20: Making Money
21: Night Watch
22: Unseen Academicals
23: The Fifth Elephant
24: Snuff
25: Raising Steam
26: Maskerade

Finished "It" by Stephen king and am now listening to "the sanctuary" by Andrew hunter Murray. Another book I knew nothing about, I didn't even read the blurb so I donn't even know what genre it is (Sci fi by the sounds of it so far). It describes a future Britain (I presume, although places are just called cities or villages) that is rather bleak and society is older and vastly more unequal than it is now.
