Claudia KP<p>I've been reading a lot about pop music genius Brian Wilson (RIP) lately (can also highly recommend the biopic 'Love and Mercy'). Anyway. One of the many things I learned: Brian hated business meetings. </p><p>He had a theory: people are more 'themselves' and less likely to con you if they're in their swimming trunks. So, he invited them to formal meetings in his swimming pool. Apparently, it worked most of the time. </p><p>And when it didn't, he would start splashing them. 🌊</p><p>Can I just say that I'd LOVE to have a swimming pool right now? Both for cooling down and for business meeting purposes.</p><p>Wouldn't it be nice...</p><p><a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/BrianWilson" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BrianWilson</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/BusinessMeetings" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>BusinessMeetings</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/SwimmingPool" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SwimmingPool</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/Music" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Music</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/Legend" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Legend</span></a></p>

"Dead Man's Curve" is a 1964 hit song by #JanAndDean whose lyrics detail a teen #streetRace gone awry. It reached number eight on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart and number 39 in #Canada. The song was written and composed by #BrianWilson, #ArtieKornfeld, #RogerChristian, and #JanBerry at Wilson's mother's house in #SantaMonica. It was part of the #teenageTragedySong phenomenon of that period, and one of the most popular such selections of all time.

"Do It Again" is a song by the American #rock band #theBeachBoys that was released as a standalone single on July 8, 1968. It was written by #BrianWilson and #MikeLove as a self-conscious callback to the group's earlier #surf image, which they had not embraced since 1964. Love and Wilson also share the lead vocal on the song. The song was issued only two weeks after the release of the band's album #Friends, with the album track "#WakeTheWorld" as its B-side.

"...we have no currently minted visionaries, although time will tell if anyone retroactively earns the title [of 'musical genius'].

What is certain is that as the pop canon continues to splinter into thousands of smaller, personal rosters, we will be losing musicians who mean everything to some people, but not – like Wilson – something to almost everyone."

"Kokomo" by The Beach Boys & Royal Philharmonic Orchestra

Listen on Apple Music (music.apple.com/us/album/kokom)

Since we lost Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys two days ago, I'm going to stick with them for today's song just like I did yesterday. Except today it's going to be a song that was done much later in their career, as in from 1988. Kokomo by the Beach Boys is another one of those songs that the moment I hear it, it's then instantly stuck in my head for the rest of the day.

It's such a great, catchy song and I song I absolutely love. Not my favorite by them, as I like their older stuff better, but it's in the top 5 or so I feel.

[Intro: Mike Love]
Aruba, Jamaica, ooh, I wanna take ya
Bermuda, Bahama, come on, pretty mama
Key Largo, Montego, baby, why don't we go?
Jamaica

[Verse 1: Mike Love]
Off the Florida Keys
There's a place called Kokomo
That's where you wanna go
To get away from it all
Bodies in the sand
Tropical drink melting in your hand
We'll be falling in love
To the rhythm of a steel drum band
Down in Kokomo

[Chorus: All, Carl Wilson]
Aruba, Jamaica, ooh, I wanna take you
To Bermuda, Bahama, come on, pretty mama
Key Largo, Montego, Ooh, baby why don't we go?
I wanna take you down to Kokomo
We'll get there fast
And then we'll take it slow
That's where we wanna go
Way down in Kokomo

And remember, he did all that studio wizardry on TAPE, bouncing all the doubled vocals and orchestral bits down to stereo or mono multiple times to make room for more stuff.

Wilson and George Martin were really out there building Mt Everest stone by stone using what we would think of as primitive tools. #BrianWilson #PetSounds
