Look at this cactus! I don't remember the name, one of the many Mammillaria which doesn't really narrow it down much. From last Sunday's botanical gardens excursion.

A creamy soft narrow field of focus photo of some silly looking cactus spilling out of a small red clay pot, square photo. It's a relatively artistic composition, with the blurry bokeh shapes of red brick in the background, and nothing but the round tubular fingers of the cactus in the foreground. They are a lovely mix of greens, reds, yellows and warm tones, the plant itself green and its myriad little hairy spikes every possible hue between brown, red and cream white. If pressed, one could describe the shapes of them as boobular. As a whole the photo just looks calm and pleasant, at least to those who enjoy cacti.

Opuntia microdasys coming into flower.

A medium size Opuntia microdasys or Bunny Ears Cactus in a terracotta pot with a lemon yellow flower at the front. Other buds at the back are just past flowing and two others have yet to show. A small multicolored mosaic resin lizard from Mojacar is at the bottom left and a small headless figurine of an ancient female deity from Hagar Qim in Malta in to the bottom right.

It's finally blooming~~

Opuntia fragilis is seen in dappled sunlight as I take a look at the new growth that has emerged in the last ten days. The pads are protected by many clusters of spines that require any weeding or maintenance be done with long tweezers. This cactus lives in this pot outside all year, so the soil is fast draining so the winter rains don’t drown it.
