It must be sad to be so insecure that you feel threatened when people ask you to refer to them by preferred #pronouns . personally, I don't feel the need to ask this. I'm a boring and fairly obviously #cis #heterosexual man but if someone wishes to talk about me as they, them, she, her or even it and its, well okay then.

But if anyone asks me to use particular pronouns to refer to them, I will do so. Geez it's just basic empathy. It means a lot to them. Respect that. Why must that be explained?

I have a work social media persona. My "worksona". It's who I represent as on LinkedIn and also on here.

I also have an authentic social media persona. It's another account on another server under an alias. An anonymous alias.

Why does this discrepancy exist? Because I talk about lived experiences, values, and positions on my second account that are stigmatized by society. Mental health. Neurodivergence. Gender. #FuckTheSystem.

My "worksona" is not me. It's a construct I shaped to maximize my chances by allowing me to harness conditional privilege: mainly that I'm _read_ as a white assumed cisgender, neurotypical, heterosexual, able-bodied man. But it's a mask. It means I'm keenly aware of the discrepancy in privilege that is granted based on how one is perceived.

I've been slowly incorporating more authenticity into my "worksona" but the sad truth is that there's still a wide chasm between who I really am around the people I trust and who I am in a professional context. There is literally only a single person who knows the full me and also knows me in real life. Everyone else gets a filtered version. Why? Stigma. Stigma that's assigned to layers of my identity I have no control over.

This is what privilege is about. Chances are that if your "public persona" aligns closely with your authentic self that you benefit from a whole lot of privilege (or that you're a #neuroqueer rebel; I see you and applaud you). And to the white men in my followers: this is what people talk about when they say you have privilege. The insidious truth is that it's _invisible_ to you because you probably don't know anything else. But there are many people around you who just _pretend_ to look and act like you.

I am one of the people who pretend.

I came across this video by a young woman who is talking about the questions raised when women de-center men. Her naval gazing revolves around her sexual orientation (lesbian) but I feel like this thought exercise is one that could be had by all women (trans and cis / straight, bi or gay)

I mean the most interesting one is in the title of her video... "What is womanhood without men?"

Something she talks about is how womanhood — the gender performance via our aesthetic, mannerisms, etc. is influenced so heavily by being steeped in a patriarchal society as well as the male gaze. This particular statement really stuck out to me and I hate it.

"And so much of our value… we’re sort of forced to believe comes from attracting men and being attractive to men in the male gaze."

If you are upset that someone uses a term to describe your identity or ideology because it is the predominant one within a society, you should think about why it makes you feel uncomfortable. People are going to create terms to describe identities or ideologies so that we can talk about and understand them. Being upset because a trans person called you cis or a vegan/vegetarian called you a carnist or any number of other words that describe the predominant identity or ideology within a society is just ridiculous and says more about your views than any one else's.
People are going to create words to talk about identities or ideologies so being upset that yours is being described is nonsensical. If you are so sure about your ideology or identity, why take issue with other people describing it?

Weil es mir gerade mal wieder bei einer Person aufgefallen ist.

Es ist total toll, wenn auch cis Menschen ihre Pronomen in die Bio oder sogar den Namen schreiben.
Zum einen garantiert es, dass keine falschen Annehmen gemacht werden und es macht uns nichtbinären und trans Menschen nicht zu so merkwürdigen Aliens, die als einzige ihre Pronomen nennen.

Also bei mir habt ihr nur dadurch schon einen gedanklichen Pluspunkt.
