Judge Laplante agreed the plaintiffs could proceed as a #class, allowing him to issue a fresh judicial order blocking implementation of #Trump's policy nationally.

The question of whether to issue an #injunction was "not a close call," he said, noting #children could be deprived of #US #citizenship if Trump's order took effect.

"That’s irreparable harm, citizenship alone," he said. "It is the greatest privilege that exists in the world.”

The process to certify a class can often take months. A snr White House ofcl told Reuters the #Trump admin will be watching #class certification decisions closely & plans to aggressively challenge them to prevent “abuse”of the process.

The govt says the named class plaintiffs in the New Hampshire case are too different from one another to be able to proceed as a #ClassAction. They include an #asylum seeker & someone on a #StudentVisa.

ICYMI: As you will have spotted class pops up in my posts quite a lot, so despite the data from the latest British Social Attitudes survey suggesting its declining as an influence on political behaviour, I've set out for @NWBylines why I think we are (actually) set for a revival of class (specifically working class) politics in the UK.

While people's live are patterned by their (lack of) wealth & their need to work to live, we have a political economy built on the foundations of class.

When people talk of post-class politics, or the irrelevance of class in the face of other identities, they are (themselves) helping (re)produce the political economy of class that thrives in the shadows.

The cleverest trick those advantaged by class polities have pulled off is to get people to deny the importance of class!

As Louise Ashley (QMUL) points out,
it is 'quite hard for organisations to credibly claim commitment to mobility & equality when, for example, internal pay ratios between the highest & lowest earners remain fairly extreme'!

This is because issues of class have been excluded from discussion of equality & diversity programmes, and remain core to the structures of pay in large organisations.

Class, as we know is now often regarded as a non-issue; it isn't, however much some hope!
