"Some of the first reviews ever written for the original Legend of Zelda and Super Mario Bros. have been digitized and published by the Video Game History Foundation. The reviews appeared in Computer Entertainer, an early video game magazine that ran from 1982 to 1990. The archivists at the Foundation tracked down the magazine’s entire run and have published it all online under a Creative Commons license."

"The notorious Russian cyber-espionage gang known as Fancy Bear, also known as APT28, has increased its attacks against governments and military entities worldwide using new sophisticated cyber tools and technology.
Active since 2007/8, this state-sponsored hacking gang has established itself as one of the most persistent and dangerous cyber adversaries, with a documented history of targeting high-value organisations across multiple continents including the United States, Ukraine, Germany, and France.

#Computer question:

Let's say you have to survey a bunch of servers of various ages, and want to figure out which of these have reached their end of support by their manufacturers.

I have figured out the processors that were installed in those servers. What _other_ information do I need to determine whether or not they have reached their #EOL ?

Results of my little survey. Why is Linux growing?

19% believe it is because of sunsetting of OS versions. Microsoft is forcing Windows 11 on people and a lot of people are not happy with that and some are just not able to run it. So with a choice of replacing the HW or the OS, plenty of people choose the OS.

20% believe it is because people are just discovering how good Linux truly is.

41% believe it is a combination.

21% think it is something else, with some mentioning SteamOS as a reason.

Whatever the reason, more and more people are seeing Linux as a great choice, which is only good news to me.

🚨⚠️ Canada issues warning about North Koreans posing as remote IT workers
👉Never give permission to anyone to remotely access your personal computer, tablet, or phone

Canadian authorities say suspected sanctions violations should be reported to the RCMP, either by phone at 1-800-420-5805 or online at rcmp.ca/report-it, while suspicious transactions should be reported to FINTRAC.

“They should be reported so that law enforcement can do their job,” Immler said. “I don’t think any company should be afraid of reporting this sort of activity and making sure that those folks are rooted out the best they can.”

I have a large collection of #electronic and #computer #music #vinyl #records. I had a radio show on FM on the subject for about a decade. So it is always exciting to find something I don't have, especially early stuff. Found this 10" boxed "Music from Mathematics" from 1960, bell labs. Much more rare than 1962 Decca 12". Never seen it before. Found in a local shop, of all places, hiding inside a vinyl carry case.

Is it just me, or is it impossible to get a decent vertical mouse?

I've owned a couple of the cheap ones, and the scroll wheels failed after ~6 months. Splurged on a Logitech MX Vertical, and the scroll wheel still works great over a year later - but the left click switch is failing (I can hear/feel it click, but it drops the input 10% of the time).

Anyone out there have any suggestions? Has to be a vertical mouse due to accumulated damage from 30+ years of using "flat" mice. I don't need any bells and whistles (extra buttons, trackball, joystick, etc) but I won't complain if they're present. I use a mouse 10+ hours a day, so durability is important!

Edit: got the model of the Logitech mouse wrong, heh.
