Mia<p>In case you missed it, this post on 'The Critical Role of U.S. Federal Funding in Zooniverse' is a great overview of Zooniverse's contribution to participatory research infrastructure <a href="https://blog.zooniverse.org/2025/04/30/the-critical-role-of-u-s-federal-funding-in-zooniverse/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">blog.zooniverse.org/2025/04/30</span><span class="invisible">/the-critical-role-of-u-s-federal-funding-in-zooniverse/</span></a></p><p><a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/crowdsourcing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>crowdsourcing</span></a> <a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/MachineLearning" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MachineLearning</span></a> <a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/AI4LAM" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AI4LAM</span></a> <a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/CitizenScience" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CitizenScience</span></a></p>
Tim Sherratt<p>Saw an article today about the Virtual War Memorial and remembered that way back in 2008 at the National Archives we hacked together Google Maps and Tumblr to enable people to upload images and stories about WWI service people. In the 6 months following the site's launch there were more than 1,000 of these 'scrapbook' posts.</p><p>The NAA later rebuilt the site, and a couple of years ago they completely removed it.
