This countryside bus stop was my temporary office for a quick on-line meeting with an oversea team last month. I enjoyed staying in this very special "library", with plenty of fresh air, and illumination from the evening sun.

OK AIDS/LifeCycle community. This is my buddy Dugger. He is an ALC veteran and was planning on doing the final ride but got into a really bad car accident. So he stopped fund raising (obviously) But miracle of all miracles, his Dr has cleared him to start riding again. And says ALC is a definite possibility.

Anyway, let's get this man his Ticket To Ride, he is only about $1500 away from that. Let's make it happen!!!!!

Silvertown Tunnel opened today. The Grauniad quoted:

“Expecting people to get off their bikes, wait up to 12 minutes and then lug their bikes on to a bus is ridiculous, especially when the entire area around the tunnel is dangerous for cycling and filled with high-risk junctions.”

Not my experience at noon today. Went from south to north. Bus waiting, took 4 of us and within minutes we were comparing the norther dedicated cycleways to the mish-mash south of the river. Bit like comparing the North & South circs.

Not much traffic. The tolls may deter enough drivers to unclog the Blackwall Tunnel so Silvertown only contribution is to vastly improve cycle and bus transportation across the river.

Feeling a bit wonky this afternoon had to buy a new saddle at lunchtime to replace the SLR that knackered me during the ride in this morning. I had completely forgotten how badly it treated me last time I rode it. I couldn’t even face riding the 6km back from the station this afternoon, it was that grim.

After two days with really warm temperatures and a lot of sunshine we had a cold easterly wind with just as much sunshine today. Temperature dropped from early summer to early spring, but trees are blooming anyway.

I took this photo in a village in the Lowenstein hills.

Guest speaker at the MAY BUG meeting will be Elliot Fishman, from the Institute for Sensible Transport.  Elliot has written a report for Austroads on Increasing active transport mode share.

(This talk is re-scheduled from March.)

"Across Australasia, an increasing number of state and local governments have identified the need to reduce car use and increase walking and cycling levels. Despite this interest, transport data shows that there are no widespread or sustained increases in active transport mode share in Australasia. The project principally focuses on interventions to grow active transport and provides coverage of the effectiveness of different intervention types to increase walking and cycling mode share."

Tuesday 6th May; short BUG meeting at 6.30pm; talk from 7pm.  All welcome. Cora Graves Community Centre 38 Blessington St, St Kilda.

After work, work and work, finally found the time (and energy) to go for my first bike ride of the year. Had to pass out cheap sunglasses along the ride to the public to protect them from my dazzling white legs. While riding uphill some walking ducks overtook me by surprise. The very nice spring sun felt like a scorching heatwave. Passed the large local boulder with people enjoy the climbing and weather.

To speak with a well know Dutch presenter known for his modesty: it was unanimously a ludicrously large success.
