From the article: "For years, White House press conferences included sign language interpreters for the deaf.

"No longer. Interpreters have been noticeably absent from Trump administration press briefings, advocacy groups say. Gone, too, are the American Sign Language interpretations that used to appear on the White House’s YouTube channel. A White House webpage on accessibility, whitehouse.gov/accessibility, has also ceased working.

"From halting diversity programs that benefit people with disabilities to staffing cuts at the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Trump administration has taken a slew of actions that harm those with impairments or chronic health conditions. Decades of hard-fought gains risk being undone by cuts to federal programs, freezes on research funding, and a White House ban on practices that support diversity."

Now I think it was perhaps none of the neighbour’s business to ask about the new tenant, but given they had complained bitterly about every single previous tenant, the landlord was just keen to get them on side and restore calm to the neighbourhood.

The implication that anyone over the age of 70 is deaf and going to have their tv on loud is unfounded.

But it’s also sadly a sign that some think it’s acceptable to discriminate against those who are #deaf.

So Coor Down, in cooperation with several other disability organisations, launched a new ad campaign for World Down Syndrome Day 2025.

I just want to take a moment to say that it's fucking brilliant. The ad starts with a person with Down syndrome, then is followed by a wheelchair user, a little person, a Deaf person, a blind person, and a prosthesis user, and at the end of the ad, the line-up includes what appears to be a Black autistic person (they're wearing headphones, presumably for sensory reasons) and someone wearing glasses.

Soooooo excited to find out that come September there's a Somatic Experiencing (a type of body centered psychotherapy) module starting up for Deaf/Hard of Hearing therapists here in D.C..

I cannot tell you how amazing this is, and how exciting it will be to be in a roomful of other Deaf/HoH therapists! 💃 💃 💃

Since apple maps changed names of things I would like to use a different map ap. But the thing I like best about apple maps is that it tactually does different iWatch buzzes for left and right and a few other things. Eg: my apple watch vibrates with unique patterns for turns. This is helpful due to my hearing loss and I dont miss turns anymore!

What map ap for iPhone has correct names for gulf of mexico, AND does unique vib alerts to the watch for turns?

I started dating a #deaf person, and even though it's going well, and we have good communication, I can see their anxiety go through the roof when we are in a place like a bar where we are in close proximity to and interacting with hearing people who can't sign and kind of act weird when they see a deaf person. I think it's called Dinner Table Syndrome
