Subject to an interesting discussion a while back in my timeline, the RAF's F35 jet programme has now come in for some withering criticism from the National Audit Office:

The 'combined shortcomings of the global & UK F-35 stealth fighter aircraft programme — including delays, lower-than-expected availability, infrastructure gaps & personnel shortages — are undermining the armed forces’ warfighting capability'....

Might the money be better spent on UK/EU technology?

Albanese’s report said the ICJ’s ruling “effectively qualifies the occupation as an act of aggression … Consequently, any dealings that support or sustain the occupation and its associated apparatus may amount to complicity in an international crime under the Rome Statute.”

The UK's ascendant military Keynesianism (MK) looks to have hit its first major bump in the road;

The decision to buy US F35A fought jets instead of the Typhoons made by the Eurofighter consortium, means unless other new orders are found promptly BAE Systems (the UK part of Eurofighter) will be laying off its aero-production workers.

For MK to work, production needs to be domestic, otherwise the claimed of economic benefits from defence spending evaporate!

China tests 3D-printed jet engine

China has successfully completed the maiden flight of a domestically developed 3D-printed, ultra-lightweight turbojet engine. The flight test, conducted Tuesday in Inner Mongolia, saw the miniature jet engine reach an altitude of 4,000 meters, validating its operational reliability and stability in real-world conditions, according to Aero Engine Corporation of China (AECC). In a pre…

We are making a fundamental mistake in understanding our role in relation to the Russo-Ukrainian War.

This mistake is adapting a #conservative mindset to thinking about the terms of our engagement with it.

We want to preserve our status & hierarchy by insisting that we’re the protectors and Ukraine is the protected.

But the reality is not so much that Ukraine needs to join us, but we should join #ukraine. Our troops should be there not to protect, but to learn!

Our concepts are wack

FRANCE 24's Mark Owen speaks to Michael Benhamou, Founder and Executive Director of OPEWI, Europe's War Institute, about the 5% defence spending target agreed by NATO countries at the latest summit. He says that the 5% figure was picked 'as a negotiating tactic' and that European taxpayers would want to see a return in the form of job creation and defence industry development on European soil.

🇵🇱 FM Sikorski:

"#Putin has woken a giant. We are now going to spend real money on #defence. We have €1.5 billion in grants from EDIP. We have €150 billion in loans. Countries will now be able to spend beyond deficit limits on defence. This will be hundreds of billions. Money is not going to be a constraint. Within a few years, #russia will find that it will be very difficult for them to match our spending, which is exactly what happened to the Soviet Union in the 1980s"

So much for military Keynesianism....

Th first big procurement announced by the UK Govt. since upping the projected defence budget is to buy US (nuclear weapon capable) fighter planes.

There's our tax money disappearing out of the country right there...

As I've said before, if you're justifying your defence expenditure by claiming its going to 'create job', you need to procure weapons built in the UK.... like the Eurofigther Typhon (partly built in Preston).
